This restaurant is a little better than mediocre. All that saves it is the service which is efficient. However if you are going to lay claim to an ‘innovative’ menu then don’t insult your customers by not cooking to the method laid claim to in that menu. This is made worse by then lying to cover your tracks and therefore further insulting your customer. I imagine the kitchen is full of microwaves and buckets of wholesaler bought base sauces and pastes- how else could you explain the taste and lurid colour of the dishes? Cauliflower tandoori starter was certainly not marinated or tandoori oven cooked it was slavered in far too much paste 2 minutes prior to being served the samosas were not homemade they were probably frozen and nuked. Mains were a little better but generic sauces were similar tasting and should have been very different according to the description on the menu. Roti was like cardboard and certainly not cooked in a tandoori oven, I doubt that they even have one. Saffron rice was coloured using food dye- just serve plain steamed rice- don’t pretend. Accept that the customer is always right and that sometimes they actually are right and when they are don’t bs them. All in all a disappointing meal made worse by a disappointing attitude. Will not be back, we can all buy a jar of curry sauce from Coles slap together an...
Read moreWe went to Shiraaz as a family of 6. As a vegan, Indian food is often my go to and restaurants always have a lot of options, that is except for this restaurant. 2 options (no entree and no dessert). I ordered the potato and chickpea that arrived with zero potato and even though I’d asked for very mild, it was so spicy I couldn’t eat it. 3 other family members tasted it and all said it was too spicy (even though they enjoy spicy food). The lovely waitress returned the food to the kitchen and when it came back to the table it had 3 small pieces of potato and no change to the spice level. I suspect the potato was added to the original dish. So I ended up with no meal while everyone else ate theirs. SO disappointing!!! The chef needs to listen and cook to people’s needs. Assuming the meals are cooked fresh, that shouldn’t be a problem. I also think it’s unreasonable that I still had to pay for my meal even though I ate nothing due to the kitchen’s inability to cook to taste. I notice that the food being too spicy is mentioned in other reviews which is interesting. It’s a shame the chef and restaurant are not paying attention to these reviews. Our family all live in Geelong and all now have a disappointed view. The wait staff were lovely and did their best to help but if the kitchen isn’t helpful, what can they do! The star is...
Read moreThis was one of the WORST DINING EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE! I've literally been to thousands of restaurants around the world, and this ranks up there in the top 5 worst ever. On a rare foray into Geelong City, we were very keen to try out a new restaurant. We went here on a recommendation, and it turned out there was a function on. As we were there at 5pm, the owner, keen to not miss out on a dollar, offered us a table if we were finished by 6pm. He then proceeded to spray one of the most vile 'air fresheners' I have ever smelled in my life all around the door, around 2m from our table! I think he did this to try and mask the awful smell the restaurant was emitting. The smell of the air freshener made me very nauseous and gave me a terrible headache. On top of this, they were playing some of the worst Indian doof music you have ever heard at unbearable volume levels through a terrible sound system, while at the same time blaring strobe lights everywhere. This was before the function had actually started. To top it all off, the food was sub-standard. We couldn't really taste it anyway because our taste buds had been killed by the foul air freshener. Will never eat here again, and recommend you...
