Disappointing experience. Had to wait just over 35 mins for my order, which was a salad (pre-prepared), a raw dish and only one item that required cooking (steak no veg/salad), in a restaurant with four customers. Steak listed as "wagyu beef." Although the beef was good quality, it was DEFINITELY NOT wagyu. The only saving grace for Sumi, is the waitress. The chef is arrogant. Sumi Owner: You were not there, and are relying on the waitress and chef. 35 or 33 minutes wait is RIDICULOUS for a PRE-PREPARED salad (are you trying to say he made it from scratch???), adding garnish to the cerviche, and cooking one piece of meat. The waitress initially said 20 minutes then the arrogant chef made her say 30. The waitress was well aware of his attitude and apologised several times to me. Again, there were four people in your restaurant no matter how you choose to parse it. If that was wagyu beef, you were ripped off....
Read moreSumi Geelong, geez where do I begin? Lunch, dinner when ever you go your going to have a great time if you enjoy a very relaxed scenery. The staff are a huge point in going and it shows, I’ve been to quite a few restaurants and little places similar to Sumi but they don’t compare not even close, the most friendly people you could find work here and they make you feel truly welcome as soon as you walk in the front door. I’ve already been talking this place up and I haven’t even got to the food, the food is just...wow, mackerel on a stick with some greens and amazing spices, pork belly with house pickles. And don’t get me started on the drinks, sake, wine and local beers! Truly from the top to the bottom of the menu absolutely divine there is no other way to put it. Needless to say it is a must go if you are a fan of Asian based food with a multicultural background of food and drink styles you’ll feel...
Read moreMy wife and I dined at Sumi restaurant for the first time earlier this week, compliments of a gift voucher from our daughter. We opted for the "Feed Me" at $58pp, which was extremely good value, consisting of 7 courses, all served in a timely manner - fried cauliflower, Scallops and vermicelli, Chicken Bun Bao's, Chicken skewers, grilled squid on skewers, dumplings and a whole small fried snapper. All were delicious and just the right size portions, leaving us perfectly satisfied. A special call out to the chef, and Mia the owner, who was such a friendly, welcoming, host and waitress. We will definitely be returning and look forward to trying some of the other "feed me" dishes on offer. Do yourself a favour and...
