The worst brunch I have ever been to. Absolutely not worth the money, would not recommend, and would not return. I recently attended the bottomless brunch at Ugly Baby, and it was so incredibly disappointing. Wait times of 20+ mins for drinks. Rude service. Food not served until 1hr and 20 mins into the brunch, considering it was only a 2hr brunch. Dessert arrived past the finish time, so that some of my guests didn't even receive their dessert and were still asked to pay full price for their experience. More details: Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a waitress who rolled her eyes at our table, ignored us, and did not ask if we wanted a drink at all throughout the entire brunch. Once we were finally served and ordered a cocktail, we continued to wait 20+ minutes for drinks service, which continued throughout the brunch. It was obvious the staff were unable to keep up with the volume of guests, meaning the service was lacking both in efficiency and professionalism. One of the guests on the non-alcoholic package only received 2 drinks over the entire 2hr brunch, even with us kindly reminding the waitstaff multiple times for more drinks. In terms of being described as a 'bottomless' brunch, this is not the place to go. The food was advertised as a starter, main, and dessert. As our table were sat without food for over an hour and 20 minutes, when the food finally arrived, it arrived all at once, making us feel incredibly rushed. The desserts arrived 15 minutes after the brunch ended, meaning nearly half of the guests didn't get theirs, as they had to leave. The food itself was tasty and towards the end of the brunch, the waitstaff were quicker to refill Prosecco glasses, but the cocktails continued to take 15-20 minutes. After speaking to the manager at the end of the service, our table were offered free cocktail jugs for our trouble. Although this was a kind gesture, this did not make up for the terrible experience my guests had to pay $85 each for. And without me saying anything, we were not going to be offered any compensation or discount for the experience we had, which I think speaks volumes for the customer service at Ugly Baby. Overall, 1 star. And that's only because the cauliflower was tasty. Everything...
Read moreWe had a pretty strange and uncomfortable experience here. Our booking was for 6:15pm, but a few of us arrived early in the city 5:30ish and thought we'd head there for a drink or something. We ended up kindly seated early. What wasnât communicated was that this would start our official dining session. If weâd known, we wouldâve gone elsewhere for a drink first. At 6pm â still before our actual booking â we were told we had to order mains immediately as they take 45 minutes and our session would now end at 7:15pm. It felt rushed and confusing, and the change in timing was never explained until we asked. After I clarified what happened and that it was a 2hr session our end time was then confirmed to be 7.30pm.
The atmosphere throughout felt tense and transactional. We could see staff being spoken to quite intensely near the kitchen, and a tall manager kept pacing through the restaurant â no smiles, no warmth, just very procedural. At one point, he shoved a plate (a literal half head of broccoli) at our server and muttered âput this on the table.â It was jarring and just added to the uneasy energy. We felt like we were on a conveyor belt rather than out for a relaxed dinner.
The food itself was disappointing. The stracciatella was mostly a big hunk of pumpkin with a small smear of cheese. The broccoli was hard to share and cut â just a halved head, no serving utensils. The âlarge plateâ gnocchi was a tiny portion, bitter, and honestly unpleasant. The brussels sprouts and Jerusalem artichoke dish was bitter, mushy, and texturally off â I usually love Jerusalem artichokes, but these looked and tasted like something resected from a body.
We skipped dessert and left at 7pm because the whole thing felt rushed and uncomfortable. The only highlight was the cocktails â they were excellent. But overall, the experience lacked warmth, communication, and good food. Probably won't be back. If you're after a great dinner and lovely service theres much better options like Lightyears...
Read moreBooked in for a family birthday dinner on a Friday night. Restaurant was 2/3 full, so not super busy. Food was tasty and decor nice, but service wasn't the best. Waitress was polite but seemed unenthusiastic, maybe in a bad mood. Having informed tĄe restaurant this was a birthday dinner when booking, we had thought the vibe would be a bit more upbeat or friendly- after all, Ugly Baby claims on their website to be all about 'fun' dining. We ordered a bunch of share plates, including zaatar bread, but then 10 mins later the waitress came back and told us zaatar was not available. She still bought a bowl of dip meant to be for zaatar to our empty table though, and when we looked at the dip wondering what to dip in it as we had nothing she then asked if we wanted flatbread to go with the dip, which took a further 15 mins to come out, and consisted of one small flatbread which wasn't enough for all 5 people at the table to try. Share plates came out at different times starting another 15 mins after this, with small plates of chicken bites and squid first, then courgette flowers about another 15 mins later, and then there was a further 30 minute wait before before gnocchi, fries, potatoes and rib eye came out. This made it difficult to share the food as some of us had wanted to try specific items and were left waiting ages, while others ate to avoid the existing food getting cold. I can understand rib eye may take a while, but the fries and potatoes are quick items to cook and could have come out earlier to go with the squid and chicken. Not sure if the kitchen was having issues or if this is how Ugly Baby usually runs, but we likely won't be back. Experience and portion sizes were disappointing for the price point, which is a pity as I researched a lot of restaurants before booking here and really...
