Really disappointing. We came to check out the new Stories last Friday evening. We went to the Pourhouse bar for a round of drinks before our dinner reservation at Karla. The bar looked very well-stocked but when I asked for an amaretto sour, the bartender said they don't make drinks other than what's on the menu. I definitely saw a bottle of Disaronno amaretto on the shelf and it's a very common cocktail. I also note that the bar was not at all busy. There were 3 or 4 people working at the bar and no line up. Ok whatever. I grab a cider and we head up to Karla for the main meal.
Karla restaurant was pretty nice itself. We are told at seating that we have the table from 6:30 - 8:00. No problem, we don't sit around for ages anyway. However seating was VERY cramped. You can tell they were cramming as many tables in there as they can. Again, I see on the drinks menu that Amaretto is on the liqueurs list so I try again for my amaretto sour request and again I was denied because they don't make drinks not on the menu.
Our table and three other 2 person tables next to us were all seated within minutes of each other. So after a long while (it seemed like there was only one waitress looking after at least half the restaurant or maybe even the whole restaurant), the waitress comes over and takes the orders for the 4 tables in a row. Maybe about 10-15 minutes later we see the neighbouring tables start getting their entrees. Another 15 minutes or so and some tables are receiving more entrees. Keep in mind these are all two person tables so no one is stuck behind a big table.
Meanwhile the fire alarm or test alarm goes off in the restaurant. No one reacts or says anything. This goes on for about 10 annoying minutes and eventually fire trucks are outside. Firemen come up, have a look around then they seem to give it the all clear. Nothing during this whole time was communicated to guests.
I wait a few more minutes and ask the waitress where our entree is. She said she'll check. came back a few minutes later and said it's coming. A few more minutes later and we receive our entrees. Duck cigars were delicious.
Our mains arrived not too much later. Tasmanian salmon portion was pretty small and seemed a bit cold. The massaman curry was very tasty though. We're finishing the last of our mains when I notice both tables on each side of us asking the waitress where their mains are. By the time we finish our mains, it's now 8pm (when they initially said we were supposed to give back the table). But the waitress asks if we'd like to see the dessert menu. At this point, I was pretty sure I'm not coming back here so decided to at least have the full dinner experience. We decide on the pandan trifle, which you would think was premade so we wouldn't have to wait again. Wrong. At 8:25 I flag down the waitress and ask about the trifle. She looked surprised and asked if we haven't gotten it yet?? She walks away and comes back to say it's coming. 30 seconds later it arrives. Just as expected, it's something like they just took out of a fridge. The dessert was ok....
Stories experience in summary: refuses to make a common cocktail even though they have the ingredients for it restaurant service is very slow and disorganized especially considering prices they charge. This isn't vic park or northbridge food was pretty good though it got really stuffy in the restaurant because they cram so many people in there. It was such a nice relief to step outside to fresh air once we finished our meal.
Clearly some teething problems, so if you must try, I suggest wait at least 6 months for them to get their...
Read moreGot kicked out for no reason. When asked about why I was kicked out there was no answer. Four security guards approached me, one grabbed my shoulders and I dropped my drink. Female friend asked that if she dropped her drink whether she would be kicked out. Security guard said no. Absolute shambles.
Not one to say racism to something that happens, but I am/was quite coherent, head security guard approved of that as well, but I was still removed from the venue. Only reason I heard was because I dropped a drink, even though 4 security guards were around me grabbing me to move out prior to dropping any drinks. Also saw multiple people drop their drinks throughout the night, so the issue wasnât consistent.
To be fair the head security guard approached me and apologised for what happened as he knew that it didnât make any sense, and he admitted that he wouldnât have kicked me out of the venue. However, the fact that it even happened was a huge disappointment, especially from immigrant...

And on top your incompetent security refused to let us back in, even after we told him it was an emergency. My friend just got her period, and you're denying her access to a sanitary toilet? What kind of disgraceful service is this?! She stepped out for one second!!! literally ONE SECOND! and you shut the door on her like she's has not just spend time at you Venue; and giving me that "we understand" bullshit. You don't understand anything. We were on the ground floor, the toilet was four steps away!!! and the exit was empty. There was zero reason to block her. This is beyond unacceptable. I totally understand if it's busy but it wasn't! There were no people going in or out! And the security has seen her going out. As soon as she stepped one foot out she turned around and ask of you could go quick to the toilet. And...
