Came here to meet my friend for lunch. I was early and apparently was not dressed "appropriately."
Since it was close to the time of the reservation, I went to look for my friend who had made the reservation thinking that he had already sat down. I was "accosted" by one of the waitstaff who grabbed my arm asking if there was anything he can help me with. First of all, do not ever touch your patron! I was not dressed in my suit that day, please do not ever judge a book by its cover!
I was shocked to say the least. Never have I ever been treated with such utter disrespect. Perhaps I did not happen to fit their mold of a "model citizen" that they usually cater that day, but there should have not been any situation where the staff touch their customers. I don't know the rationale for this treatment.
I would suggest to anyone that may find this otherwise fine establishment to patronize, please look around, if you do not fit the decor, perhaps it might be wise to look for something that might suit you better. The food was good, the atmosphere and company was great. But four stars off for how I was treated. How...
Read moreAbsolutely shocking. I wish I had read the reviews before (and don't be fooled by the good reviews which are all written by "local guides" so clearly fake). I've never been in a place that so perfectly combines bad food and rude service. We had goulash and ravioli, both disgustingly salty and overcooked gloop, and tiny portions, still managed somehow to tot up almost 50 euros with 2 beers. To top it all, the guy who I think was the owner insisted that we paid a tip (suddenly becoming very proficient in English when he couldn't speak a word earlier), which we naturally refused and to our amazement he then very rudely replied that "so the service is free then" and stomped off :o Well, it's not free for tourists it seems! What a rip off. They were very busy with what sounded like locals so I guess the place somehow appeals to Austrian palate and style, but they clearly don't care about tourists and seem to do everything they can to make sure you don't come back. Don't worry, we won't even if this was the last restaurant on Earth. TAKE YOUR...
Read moreDid not enjoy my experience at Cafe Englander. I can forgive slow service even if there was no one there, but 40 minutes for avocado black toast and eggs and bacon, two cappuccinos! The avocado had already oxidized. I was able eat mine with my fingers but my partner never received cutlery, wait staff no were to been seen, he used the spoon from the cappuccino. What broke the camels back was after 30 minutes waiting to pay and leave, I was told, not asked for a tip, the bill was 31€, I begrudgingly said to round up too 33€, i checked my phone and he had rounded to 35€. Thankfully I never have to go there again, would have been better to get prepacked food from the Spar around the corner and go...
