My wife and I came here as it 'appeared' to have good reviews. When we arrived there was a long queue. My wife spotted a table was free and told me to sit at the table while she ordered. As I was about to sit down one of the staff (who subsequently claimed she was the manageress) very rudely and abruptly 'instructed' me NOT to sit down as customers are expected to order first and then seek out a free table. She also told us there was a notice on the door at the entrance. We later discovered this was untrue. I was so taken aback at her rudeness I almost walked out there and then but my wife and I agreed with each other that someone as rude as her was not going to spoil our evening so we continued to queue. A short while later, while still waiting in the queue, newly arrived customers immediately sat down at the two free tables behind us (one of which I had attempted to sit down at before being so brusquely told I was breaching the above sacrosanct company policy). I then asked the same rude member of staff to explain why she was not applying this rigid and frankly silly rule on these customers. She, without getting eye contact, rather disdainfully uttered that both sets of customers had already ordered and thus were entitled to sit down. My wife and I had seen them arrive so knew this also to be untrue. One of the customers was even reading a menu choosing what to eat. We complained that if she wishes to rigidly apply this silly rule, she needs to do so consistently with every new customer that walks in. She also claimed she had never encountered any issues with her precious seating policy. Again, this is probably far from true looking at the significant number of negative reviews here from customers who had also been rudely spoken to and who also felt that this policy was ridiculous. When we eventually placed our order (salmon and avocado, chicken katsu donburi and a maki sushi dish) the food was disappointing. My katsu was stone cold - over many years in Asia this was probably the coldest chicken katsu donburi I have ever tasted. The maki rice didn't appear to have the required sushi vinegar nor did the salmon donburi. Overall, it appears that the hype was just that. Wouldn't go again as there many better choices in Brussels. Would also prefer not to encounter such a rude person as the so called "manageress" again. She couldn't manage her way out of paper bag. Good luck with her ridiculous...
Read moreThis place have made me fall in love with sushi. In general, I like sushi, but never really plan on having one - my girlfriend does that for me. My sushi experience has been OK so far, but I never really saw what the fuss is about. Until Makisu. First of all, this place was relatively new when I was there, according to Yelp, it was opened for just 3 weeks, but I understand that it is a franchise of a different Makisu somewhere else in BXL. Everything felt very new and the place wasn't crowded, but that might change very soon. The place offers two types of sushi: classics and funky ones, each category has 5 sushis to offer, you can also assemble your own ingredient by ingredient. You can also choose whether you want your sushi tokyo, california or Hawai. I went for Up the river and Spicy Pablo. The sushi arrived very soon on a stylish wooden plate perfectly suited for two, with room for soya sauce and wasabi included. The sushi itself was magnificent. Up the river hit me with the taste of fresh salmon, but soon a taste I have never felt before in a sushi appeared. It was mint. Mint! In a sushi! Very unpredictable (I pray that it is not a common thing and I don't look like I had sushi for the first time) and exciting combination, perfect. Spicy Pablo represented the funky side of sushi with shrimp, crab, avocado and a Jalapeño pepper with cilantro sauce on top. Funky combination indeed, but a very good match. With 12 pieces of sushi for each of us two, very good lemonade and a pleasant armosphere the food cost less than any delivery sushi I had in the past 6 months and tasted so much better. I think you will see me around even when my girlfriend is out of town, and that is a review on its own. PS you can order ahead and your sushi will be waiting for you on hangers by the cash register. Use this option and enjoy the sushi around the beautiful place St. Catherine just...
Read moreWe came to visit Brussels for the weekend, and we saw a good review of this place, so we decided to come here. We were at the place close to 10 PM and we checked that it is opened until 10.30 PM. The place was packed and we had to wait for 5 minutes for the queue, so we decided to take away the food instead of sitting at the restaurant (there were only 10 tables for 2). After we ordered, we saw there were 2 empty tables, so I quickly asked them if we can sit here and eat instead. They said it was fine. One minute after that one of the employees came to our table, stated that they will be closing in 10 minutes, so it might not be a good idea for us to eat there since they will have to clean the dishes and wipe the table. We said, then can we do the take away and sit here until you close, she said that it’s okay since there were many people still eating and some were waiting for their take-away food. After the food arrived and we were about finishing our meals, another enployee came to our table and said that we should not eat here since we asked for take-away food. We should not sit at the table (but others were still eating and sitting at their tables). We tried to explain that we asked before, but the staff was being rude. When I explained, she did not even make an eye-contact. She looked away. So I waited until she finished telling us that it made them more work to clean up after us even though there was a full-house. I would say the food is excellent and we will NOT go back to this place again after the terrible service. We were not confused but the staffs were rude and...
