Read moreWe came for lunch today (21 December 2023) and were worried we wouldn’t get a seat but lucky one freed up as we approached Mer Du Nord - Nooordzee!
With a fish monger on one side and the eatery on the other grab yourself a seat under the umbrellas and soak up the electric atmosphere of this clever version of a fish and chips restaurant, outside and in organised chaos.
Ordering is easy with the menu clear, not overly extensive and looking tasty. We ordered the escargot, calamari, mussels, whitebaits and prawns. Side with some bread, Sauvignon Blanc and sparkling water we went to our seats and waited a short time before our name was called and the food was swiftly delivered to the table.
Delicious is the word I would use to cover out the standard of food, seasoned well, cooked to perfection and fresh off the boat every bite was flavourful and delicious.
The energy of the place is electric and during this festive season the additional great mood everyone was in just made it extra enjoyable.
Make sure you try here when in Bruxelles but be warned, it gets super busy so be sharp on getting a seat as this place is crazy...
Read moreThis place was recommended to me by a local, and that's always a good thing. Don't go if you're looking for a fancy (or even nice) place to sit down inside for a quiet leisurely lunch. Definitely not! Go here if you want the most fresh seafood, prepared perfectly, and presented in an easy to carry (or balance or perch or rest) manner. There are only a few seats "inside" (there was a very generous outdoor seating area, but it was raining), so don't expect nice tables and chairs... And metal cutlery. But do go here for incredible seafood. It's part of a popular seafood market, so you can actually see (no pun intended) where you're food is coming from. The food is wonderfully prepared to bring out the natural flavors and wasn't camouflaged with overbearing sauces. I got the fish stew and the mussels, and just DAMN! It was cold and rainy, so the stew was perfection. I just took out all the mussels and added them to the stew, even better. Great local bread! Great local blonde beer! Great service!...
