Don't be fooled by the neighborhood. I'm taking a second stab at this review -- I'm not sure how else to say this but on the night that I went there the crowd was was very rough, like wrong side of the tracks and seemed to be mainly African Canadian. I hope that's politically correct I'm just trying to report what I saw. And, by the way there are wildly conflicting reviews for this place - sexist, racist, short-fused bouncers so the crowd composition to a point depends on the night.
The bartender asked the bouncer to kick me out saying I'd had too much to drink. The fact remains that I could not get my coat & purse because the bouncer physically grabbed me in his arms and lifted me in the air and carried me out. When I tried to go back for my coat he called the police.
I'm not sure why, according to another Yelper the bouncer and owner have had physical altercations with patrons before, allegedly without provocation. Had I known this I would have elected to stay away.
I was told by a police woman on the phone that the police know this club well and that they go there often.
Anyways, happily for my friend and I all we got in the way of charges was two bogus tickets, each. One for being drunk in public which seems a bit entirely unreasonable since we were at the entrance to this nightclub and in the process of leaving. Second, disturbing the peace which was completely false. I was understandably upset because the bouncer grabbed me. My friend was given a public disturbance fine for asking the police questions like what are you doing, what is going on. I got arrested overnight and assaulted by the police without being charged, read my rights, allowed to inform my family or legal help. My friend had to call 911 to find out where I was because the police refused to tell her after giving her $500 in tickets for doing nothing whatsoever that was actually illegal. I had a very bad night.
I have checked with the Municipal Court and it is VERY COMMON for Montreal police to dispense fines for 'public intoxication' at the entrance to a night club. So, please be careful.
This is relevant to Google users because while Peopl is in theory in a 'good' neighborhood, embarrassingly enough mine -- it's in the Old Montreal supposedly prestigious it is extremely misleading because you can get into a lot of trouble when you walk into the wrong joint, hang out with the wrong crowd and the police are not tolerant at all at such places, bordering on downright abusive. So I would strongly suggest to most people considering this venue to go elsewhere.
Read the reviews first. I usually always do that only, we trusted the neighborhood. If only we had we could have avoided an ocean of trouble. I for one have never been in this type of situation. Thankfully, prior to last weekend, I have never had to deal with being assaulted by a bouncer or the police, under any circumstance. And, I am in disbelief still at what happened. It is extremely shocking.
This has brought to light that you do need to be careful while in Canada because this sort of thing does happen. And, I have since become aware of some very high profile cases.
Canada is not like an extension of the United States, it is obviously another country and while the laws may be very similar, the same enforcement of said laws is not...
Read moreOMG ! Tonight, I went the place where I have never experienced such gracious humiliation in my life. The way they treat individuals is reprehensible. When I purchased my ticket, I was informed that Sean Paul would be performing. I didn't believe him at all, but I let it go since I simply wanted to enjoy myself.
I stood in line with my friends for over 30 minutes when we were the only ones present. I inquired as to whether or not it was monetary in nature, to which they said affirmatively. If you are able to let us in, why are you making us wait? I inquired. Regardless, my companion and I entered the establishment together, grabbing a chair and a table.
After an hour, the bartender approached us and informed us that our table had been reserved. After spending our hard-earned money, I explained why you did not inform us in the first place. She explained how the system functions. The bouncer asked me if I had reserved the table, to which I replied, "No." When he began to abuse his authority and asked me to leave, I left. I was quite courteous to them.
However, when you initiate a reasonable dialogue, they become frightened and begin to expose their mucus membranes.
Regardless, it was a negative experience. They probably treat me poorly because I'm from out of town.
Thank you Peopl club for being rude unprofessional and dishonest to me and to my friends 🙏
Careful guys you need to know where to spend your hard...
Read moreAsked for an amaretto sour, the bartender told me they only had 10 different bottles, from which only 3 different kinds of alcohol were used to make cocktails. I thought that they were supposed to have a minimum of bottles to be called a "bar" but apparently not. I took a Cuba Libre because it was the only acceptable choice and was absolutely deceived since it was so diluted that I couldn't taste rhum at all. They were cheap on the coke as well. Later on, my friends asked for 3 shots, to which a different bartender said; you can only take 4 shots because I decided, she said. Then, my friend wanted to leave a custom amount of tip (before taxes) on a 42$ bill for 4 shots of Ciroc, which were overpriced, to which the bartender took back the machine and then proceeded to cancel the transaction and added 15%, he then paid because he didn't want to be kicked out, and the other barman came back and said that it didn't pass so he had to try to pay again. Fortunately, my friend showed him the receipt. Also, the music choice was bad and we could not ask for songs, unless you had bought a bottle.
I would definitely not recommend visiting that club/bar unless you don't drink or you pre drink because there is no cover charge if you arrive before 11 p.m. so you may have fun without having to...
