The place itself is very nice and the bread is high quality, but unfortunately the service was a major disappointment. I ordered a cinnamon bun, and instead of warming it in an oven, they used a microwave. The result was soggy and unappealing. When I mentioned this to the person at the counter, the response was simply, “That’s the way we do it here.” On top of that, the coffee preparation was very poor. We ordered two drinks (a latte and a cappuccino), but instead of making them separately, she pulled a single espresso shot and split it between the two cups. The outcome was two watery, flavorless coffees. It’s clear the person at the counter is not trained in proper coffee preparation or customer service, and it really ruined what could have been a great experience given the quality of the bread.

The treats at this bakery are consistently delicious — fresh, well-made, and full of flavor. Whether it’s pastries, cookies, or cakes, the quality of the baked goods has never disappointed me. You can tell a lot of care goes into the baking. That said, the customer service could really use improvement. The staff often seem disinterested or unwelcoming, which takes away from the overall experience. A friendly attitude goes a long way, especially in a small, local bakery where people come in for more than just the food — they come for the atmosphere too. I’ll still stop in for the amazing baked goods, but I hope to see a more positive customer service experience in the future.

This bakery is a must-do every time we’re in the area! Do NOT sleep on the tarts. The maple butter, and Portuguese tarts are my absolute favorites, but you can’t go wrong no matter what you choose. The staff is kind, and the prices are reasonable considering the bakery is in a super touristy area. I’m already planning the next trip just so I can get my hands on more tarts (we arrived home yesterday, and the two boxes we filled are already gone)!

Tried 2 of their butter tarts and they were heavenly. 1 butter tart was easily 2 servings, should you have the fortitude to tear yourself away from the ooey gooey goodness. My first time eating butter tarts, and I am sold. Wish I had bought more to bring home! Much of Niagara on the Lake seems to be turning into ice cream and gelato shops, which I find rather disappointing since gelato is hardly unique to the place/region, thus I appreciated Niagara Home Bakery even more for being a special dessert experience I can only have there. (You know...one of those "when in Rome" type experiences.). I encourage all to bypass the gelato and macarons at the other shops on Queen Street and head to this bakery for true...
