Last year I held my wedding reception at the Niagara on the Lake Legion. We had looked at many wineries but made the decision that great food and fantastic entertainment was more important. Working with the Legion we were able to splurge on a fantastic caterer (Pig Out) and hire a 15 piece band from Toronto (with a 7 person horn section). The folks at the Legion were great to work with. They ordered the wine, beer and spirits of our choice, provided bartenders, cutlery, plates, stage, etc. Allowed us to set up the day prior; and even gave us room in their fridges to store the left over food and pick up the next day. We decorated the room with flowers and candle light, plus purchased lines and chair covers (which we donated to the legion). However, we were driving by and on Thursday afternoons, from 4 to 7, they have their weekly FishFry. It was absolutely the best fish 'n chips we've had in a very very long time. The haddock piece was generous and lightly battered, and the french fries were fresh, not frozen, and it came with a half a cup of coleslaw. 1 piece meal was $10 and 2 pieces was $13. Read moreThis place should be torn down. It wreaks of cigarettes and the atmosphere is like a derelict banquet hall. They have cracked canoe light beer which is hard to find so I had high hopes for this place since the prices are good too but when a local judged me for having a half pint light beer assuming I was going to breastfeed right afterwards was inexcusable.
