Not getting into Dianne's Fish Shack (wait too long) was the best thing that happened to us this weekend, because it meant that we went next door to Apsara Angkor. My husband and I love trying new restaurants this place did not disappoint. What we ate: Our appetizer was the Satay Chicken, these were tender and tasted great dipped in the peanut sauce. We like to share dishes, so we ordered the Dinner for two which incluced: Hot & Sour soup (not pictured, but very good), Chicken Pad Thai, Cashew Chicken and rice. Everything tasted great, we were so impressed with the quality and the value for what we paid. The restaurant: We were lucky enough to be there on a nice day, so we sat outside, the tables were clean and the view was lovely. The service: We had a very nice lady that seated us, took our order and presented the dishes. She was attentive without hovering. I would highly recommend you check out Apsara Angkor the next time you're in Kingston.

Very disappointed with my dining experience here. The service was terrible. It took 10 minutes to get water, 20 for tea. the table beside me ordered long after and received their food first. Once the restaurant staff decided to apologize the appetizer arrived ( 30 minutes). The main was not particularly tasty and the sauce thick with corn starch. Couldn't finish this meal it was so bad. Had to ask for water refill and the bill. Once I got up to pay, the server forgot who I was and decided to walk around to visually remember where I was rather than simply ask. I will not be back.

I ate at this restaurant this week. I can't complain about the food....it was delicious, but the service was terrible and ruined the entire experience. Perhaps it was a one off, but I am hopeful the owners read this and take into account what I am saying. We had a bit of a wait to get our drinks, (and frankly did not get everything we had asked for), but once they were delivered we asked if we could order our food. I assume the server did not hear us as she just walked away and took the orders of two other tables that had come in after us!? Even if she didn't hear us, isn't it normal to ask if you're ready to order? We ended up sitting there waiting to order forever and then waiting for the food for another hour on top of that. To put it into perspective, a table that had come in at the same time as us was finishing their meal and paying their bill before we even received our food. We had to ask for the bill, we had to ask for condiments, the server never checked on us to see how we were doing etc. etc. The service was truly terrible. I am not one to make a fuss, especially when it is an independent business, but this was honestly awful and did not make us feel in the least like valued customers. Perhaps you need to hire additional servers or have your servers go through some kind of training as the food really is great, but what happened above was not...

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening, looking forward to enjoying some good Cambodian food. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing.

The dishes we ordered were overly oily and salty, but what really concerned us was the rice. We were served two bowls that had a strong, unpleasant, fermented smell — clearly old and spoiled. Having lived in Canada for over 10 years and eaten at countless Asian restaurants, I’ve never been served rice in such poor condition. It typically takes at least a couple of days of improper storage for rice to develop that level of spoilage, which raises serious food safety concerns.

When I brought it to our server’s attention, he did bring out fresh rice, but casually explained that the previous one was from an “old batch.” No apology was offered. For a restaurant located in the heart of downtown Kingston, this was disappointing and frankly unacceptable.

I hope the management addresses this issue seriously — not only to improve the dining experience, but also to ensure proper food handling practices...
