It is the most gorgeous setting possible. Clean tables with panoramic views of the harbour. Stunning
Then... We ordered duck magret salad, coffee macchiato and a bottled water.
The coffee tasted like it was over-drawn and I requested another. The 2nd washer much better but in the interest of not being a pain, I pushed on and finished what can only be described as a dishwater coffee example of what a fine restaurant would serve. Any local barista would embarrass even the 2nd attempt I was given.
The salad was unpalatable. Strong odours from the onions and mushrooms that had a fishy aftertaste. We sent it back, and requested a different dish. We ordered the crab gratin aka Pastel de Jaiba.
It is billed as a Chilean classic. What arrived was a soupy mix of cheese and crab that looked and tasted like a dip you might serve as an appy. It was heavy on the cheese and light on the crab. Eatable but that’s the most I can say about it.
I realise personal tastes influence heavily reviews. Let me go on record by saying I rarely send anything back to the kitchen and due to work, eat out about 200 days per year. I can’t recall the last time I sent something back and I’m going back to 2014.
When I received the bill, I had suggested we pay for the cheese soup, coffee and water, but not the salad. The cheesy soup was barely eatable.
The icing on the cake was the manager insisting we pay for all the items! I told him I was being very fair by paying for the 3 items stated and described the poor coffee in detail along with my impression of the other items. He stood his ground as did I. I offered he could take payment for the 3 or simply the bottled water, which in fairness was good so I felt bad threatening not to pay for the water.
He finally relented and charged us for the water and the cheese soup. We paid without tip.
Needless to say, I can not recommend this cafe to...
Read moreThis restaurant has the perfect location with super views of the city and harbor. My wife and I sat outside on the upstairs terrace, to enjoy a light lunch and a beer. Our experience was marred when our waiter roughly knocked my wife's glasses off the table and off the terrace to the concrete floor below, breaking her glasses in half. Yeah, it was an accident, but clearly not an aware server either. The restaurant tried to glue, and then tape the 2 parts of the glasses together to no avail. We sat and had a second beer while we waited for the restaurant to keep attempting to fix them.
What upsets me now, a week later, is not that this occurred, but that the restaurant made no effort to make it up to us. The least they could have done to show some recognition of their error would have been to offer to comp the lunch (we only had 2 small appetizers), or a beer, or something, but they let us walk out as if they did nothing wrong and had no obligation to address it. I didn't expect them to pay for the glasses, but something? Show us you understood your employee screwed up. Maybe in hindsight I should have asked them to pay for...
Read moreNice views but terrible food and service was horrible after I had a question about my meal that came out.
My Spanish is not 100% but I know enough to read a menu and order a meal. It has work me well while traveling around South America for the past 3 months.
Meal was served stone cold when menu said “pan fried” When I asked a question about my meal things turned very quickly. It made for a horrible experience
I did notice if you were a local or spoke fluent Spanish you seem to get better service. We also had a VERY similar thing with the bread, only received butter and noticed locals received bread, butter and oils!!
Avoid so may other...
