Maggie Choo's in Lan Kwai Fong (LKF), Hong Kong, is a visually stunning speakeasy-style bar that offers an immersive experience with its 1930s Shanghai-inspired theme. Known for its unique ambiance, the bar features antique dĂŠcor, iron staircases, and vintage bank vault doors, creating an air of exclusivity and mystery.

Atmosphere

The venue exudes a glamorous vibe with dim lighting and plush seating, making it perfect for intimate gatherings or a stylish night out. The live jazz performances during weekdays add sophistication, while weekends bring lively cabaret acts and DJs that turn the bar into a vibrant party spot.

Cocktails

Maggie Choo's offers an inventive cocktail menu with Prohibition-era-inspired drinks. Favorites include:

Sangria Highball Qi Pao: A fruity and refreshing choice.

Maggie's Martini: A classic with a twist.

The bar also offers a variety of bar snacks like crispy squid with yuzu mayo and smoked popcorn chicken with spicy sauce to complement the drinks.

Highlights

Entertainment: The cabaret performances are a highlight, featuring dancers in elaborate costumes, making the evenings feel theatrical and immersive.

Service: Staff are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, ensuring a seamless experience.

Crowd: The bar attracts a mix of locals and expats, making it a cosmopolitan hotspot.

Tips

Reservations: It’s best to book a table in advance, especially on weekends, as the bar can get crowded.

Dress Code: Smart casual is recommended to match the venue's upscale vibe.

Verdict

Maggie Choo's is a must-visit for those looking to experience a blend of elegance, creativity, and entertainment in Hong Kong’s nightlife scene. Whether you're in the mood for a quiet evening with jazz or a dynamic night of dancing, Maggie Choo's delivers...

Weird and unpleasant experience. We were interested in the items in the boutique facade. The lovely hostess invited us and showed us the bar, then seated us. It came as a nice surprise. She offered to take our bag and keep it for us. The menu came and we were a bit surprised by the price but decided to go along as the atmosphere looked nice. The hostess told us different bands play every night, it was 6.30pm and no band so we thought to wait out in case a band was going to play soon. The order took a while to be taken, we had to signal the waiter and the place was pretty empty. The drinks came with no water glasses and they brought us the drinks in a fair amount of time. I didn’t really enjoy the quality of the drinks but decided not to judge it. They brought us some snacks (pretzels, almonds and nuts). In the moment of paying, a service charge was added? It was just so random, I never had that in any cocktail bar. Was it for the bag keeping? The then-not-complimentary nuts? For just existing? I just regretted being enrolled in this bar. We came outside and there was no one to give us our bag. We just saw it behind the counter and our patience ran out so we just grabbed it. An even bitter feeling came in for me. I do trust the security in HK although I felt my trust has been abused multiple times in the span of 1h. The customer experience can definitely improve from my perception, especially for « high-end » drinks. Would I recommend it? No Would I come back? Hell no Do I think there is value for money? No value perceived and costs a lot of money. I am impressed thought by the abilities the hostess has proven for us smoothly getting in. I wished the experience was up to the experience her abilities set. Or maybe it was a red flag from...

Pretty stringent club rules/dress code which I understand is needed to maintain club standards and the environment but exceptions can be made with a little common sense in mind.

We went when it was raining heavily with a storm alert in Hong Kong for the week and were visiting HK for the first time all the way from Dubai. Obviously you don't expect us to walk up Hollywood road in heels or dressy shoes in the pouring rains. (We were dressed alright but wore rain friendly footwear/sandals.) We were immediately turned away at the door because of "inappropriate shoes". We also explained it was because of the rain and it would be uncomfortable to walk in closed shoes but no. Some sort of consideration would have been nice keeping in mind the poor weather conditions. Apparently not.

So anyone looking to visit, make sure you are "red carpet' ready for this place even when it is pouring cats and dogs outside. Was really excited to visit Maggie Choo since we landed in HK, but thanks to the ridiculous experience I think I'm good now.

Thankfully there is no lack of upscale cocktail bars and pubs in the area. So we took our time and money...

I had a bad experience there, primarily due to the POOR ATTITUDE of the receptionists. I went there with my friends for fun last night. One of my friends lost the bag tag, and the two receptionists just kept saying, "No tag, no bag." We went back to the dance floor to look for the tag, but we still couldn't find it, even with a male staff member using a flashlight to help. He explained our situation to the receptionists, but the result was still the same: "No tag, no bag." This didn't help our situation at all. I asked the receptionists what I could do if I couldn't find it, and they said I could pay HKD 200 for it. Wow... it seems like it's all about the money. No one informed us about the charge for the tag when they offered the bag-keeping service. In the end, my friend paid HKD 100. However, the receipt showed that the lost tag charge was HKD 200. We were told that the rules were determined by the two receptionists, and other staff had no authority to change anything. Isn't that funny?
