Sole Mio looks like a old-time establishment that has simply lost it's touch. It might have been in its prime 5-10 years ago, but coming in for dinner on Friday night, it looked a little quiet and deserted. Perhaps it's because it's tucked away on Elgin Street, but I was expecting something more upbeat.
I was about to give Sole Mio a 3 but decided to bump it down to 1. One, service is slow and quite forgetful. As soon as I sat down, I was immediately asked for my beverage choice, so I asked for water. 5 minutes, they asked me again what I wanted to drink, as if pressuring me to order an alcoholic drink. I replied no, but that I had requested water and it still hadn't been brought over. Minus 1. It took a VERY LONG time for them to bring more bread out. Almost 1 hour. I'm not sure if they make it themselves by scratch or what, but the servers seemed to be "surprised" when I askedthe them if we could have more bread, after 45 minutes of being seated.
Secondly, it also took a long time for our main courses of pasta and pizza to come out. Do they serve each dish separately deliberately? It so happened that we were sharing but what if we weren't? People would have to wait or that we would all eat at separate times? It seemed as if they only had one pan to cook the pasta and one oven to bake the pizza. How is this even marginally acceptable?
Thirdly, the Panna Cotta was dismal. My friend ordered it but it was simply too sweet and more solid than smooth. An utter disappointment.
Asking for chèque. It only came after 20 minutes and we had to ask a second time! And the restaurant was only 30% full, come on... Will not...
Read moreI wanna give them the benefit of the doubt maybe they were having a bad day as it was pouring outside, and the staff that attended to us initially greeted us with kindness but it would be a restaurant i would not be revisiting anytime soon. The food was flavoured decently but the portions were small, tasted passable and the garnishes was the component trying the carry the presentation of the dish. The meat on the chicken thigh i order was on the drier side, the 6 strings of bean, half a baby potato and the measly tip of a carrot were mid, the carrot felt uncooked and the potatoes tasted like they were half roasted. But hey, it came with free garlic bread (which was DROWNED in butter). The pizza was also extremely average tasting, and its looks matched the taste, extremely bland. Yes, looked bland. Additionally, it was incredibly hard to pay the bill, at that point there was only 2 visible staff and they were having a nice chat amongst themselves (i hope it was a damn good chat), we attempted to catch their attention for at least 10 minutes but they were so engulfed with...
Read moreLoved my dinner experience here. Not too crowded on a weekday evening, lovely service from the staff and amazing Italian food. From the moment we entered, we were promptly seated and the staff even recommended dishes. The basket of bread was warm and it came with parmesan cheese in olive oil and a whole clove of garlic. I still wonder how they made that garlic. We had Linguine Vongole and Sole Mio Pizza to share and it was so delicious. The Vongole was tasty, pasta al dente. The pizza was crisp and thin crust, and toppings just right. For desserts, I highly recommend the tiramisu, smooth and rich. Will definitely...
