Had high expectations for Grand Hyatt Steakhouse based on the reviews and so came at lunch time and ordered the full lunch set (Soup + Dessert) with an Argentinean Ribeye and Australian Wagyu cooked to medium rare.
To start off, the salad bar was amazing and we were impressed by the selections offered which lifted our expectations for the remaining dishes.
We had recently been to Grand Hyatt Cafe's dinner buffet and the Truffle Mac and Cheese that we had experienced there was divine so we ordered it again here hoping for it to be the same. However, the one we experienced here was slightly inferior to the one at Grand Cafe as the pasta felt a tad overcooked resulting in a dried and hardened texture.
As for the steaks, they came perfectly cooked, but we were quite disappointed at how it tasted. To echo the sentiment of other reviewers that provided a lower rating to this establishment, the only "flavour" that was prominent was the bitterness and charcoal/char/ash taste from the grill. The sauce that accompanied the steaks were done nicely, but the bitterness from the steaks were too overpowering and was unsalvageable. According to google reviews, there seems to be multiple occurrences of this happening so YMMV.
Another thing to keep in mind is to double check the cleanliness of your utensils. The spoons that we were provided were dirty and had dried out brown stains on 2 different occasions and we had to request for new ones. I unfortunately did not take pictures of the first incident where the stains covered a larger area of the spoon.
Desserts were done nicely especially the apple crumble. Cheesecake was a bit dry but the flavors were all on point.
We unfortunately left feeling a bit disappointed as going in, we were under the impression that this was one of the best steakhouse that HK has to offer and it did not...
Read moreMy fiancé and I decided to come to this restaurant as our 1 year anniversary celebration in hopes to enjoy our milestone. However and very unfortunately we were delivered the absolute opposite.
We were particularly excited for the make your own Bloody Mary bar as we're somewhat avid drinkers of this cocktail but to our own discovery, the staff told us it was unavailable due to a "party" the night before. The staff never once informed us of this as we arrived to the restaurant, we had to find out ourselves!! I've worked in this industry long enough to know that this isn't a valid excuse but lack of preparation.
The service was disgustingly slow in delivering cocktails. After we found out that the Bloody Mary's were limited in selection, we had to order from the staff directly. Once we did, each cocktail took 10+ minutes to arrive. This is an absolute disgrace and doesn't justify spending close to 700+ for a free flow brunch when I could go to Soho for 400.
We received our starting sharing platter which was lovely but once we finished we found that out STARTERS didn't arrive for 30 minutes after 3 complaints as to where it might be! All we received was an apology and empty stomachs to compliment the free flow. As you all know, drinking on an empty stomach is asking for trouble.
We ordered a 270g Ribeye steak for sharing medium rare but to come back to us as rare (almost alive) I had to send it back to be recooked and sadly the steak was tougher afterwards due to it being recooked.
It is very unfortunate to see this restaurant fall down the ranks of quality of service, food and drinks especially for such a highly prestigious hotel name and restaurant. My fiancé's day and mine were ruined and I won't ever forget this. Usually hotels are supposed to bring memorable experiences. However this one...
Read moreGreat steak house situated in the centre of Hong Kong. It's subtle entrance is classy and feels exclusive, giving you a feeling that you are in for something great.
Once you step foot inside the steak house. The cigars and whiskey at the side of the corridor, the classic dark wood decor and dim lights informs you that you have stepped into a high end steak house. All the staff were friendly and helpful, they were all knowledgeable on the whole menu and were able to give good recommendations based on our preference.
Highlights of the night were the garlic bread, crab cake and the tomahawk steak. The garlic bread had garlic butter spread on both sides and well toasted, perfect for the start of start of the meal. The crab cake was also brilliant, it was well seasoned and browned nicely on both sides.
The star of the night was served after the crab cakes. The tomahawk steak was dry aged nicely, giving the steak an intense beef flavor without too much "funk" taste. The medium rare steak was cooked perfect in the middle with a nice seared crust on the surface. Creating a nice contrast between the soft and juicy interior and crispy and flavorful exterior.
The food was generally great, except for the bone marrow served as a side dish for the steaks. Contradictory as it may sound , but the marrow was too fatty. Of course everyone who order the bone marrow wants the fatty and flavourful texture of the marrow itself. But the bone marrow served at the Grand Hyatt Steakhouse was huge, topped with even more fatty and flavourful crust (could not remember what it was). This two layer of fat and flavor did not provide any sort of contrast in flavor and nothing to cut through the richness of the marrow. The overwhelming fattiness coated my mouth with oil and I could not taste anything but fat until I wash that down with my...
