My experience is so difficult to put into words. Just know, that it was probably a once in a life time experience. Sorry if you're time at the Biergarten is not as eventful.
We were looking for something different to eat one night other than local cuisine or American food. I know it's so random to go to a German pub when in Hong Kong, but we thought why not.
We really wanted to sit at the bar, but there were not enough seat. So we sat in one of the barrel booths. It was the best location to see to watch the magic unfold that night. There is music playing but not too loud. Having a conversation with the people at your table is not an issue.
We were kept entertained most of the night by random groups/individuals singing along to the music playing. Sometimes it would only be a couple of lines, but still humorous to watch and hear. I have to say it was much better than any karaoke bar I've been to. A group of German men started singing a traditional German song. Nothing wrong with cheerful intoxicated people.
The food was amazing and the beers were reasonably priced. I can't forgot to mention that. We ordered the pizza and potato skins. Yes, I know, very random choices for a German place.
The crowd is definitely a local crowd. I only noticed a few other tourists there. It's definitely not a place you would necessarily notice waking by, but it's so worth it. It seems that Friday night was the better night. Some friends went on Saturday (after hearing our stories) and they said it wasn't as lively. But they could have been there too early for any...
Read moreA good tapped german white beer (benediktiner White beer)! Did not have this for 2 Years of Asia, so thanks for this. it is a restaurant with some decorative elements, but it is not even trying to look like a "beer garden"... or the person decorate it was never in a german Biergarten. But still nice, no problem! You have also Bitburger on the tap, and more beers from the bottle. We also tried the Curry Wurst: Is OK, you can eat this as a original german currywurst (there are differences between the areas, this one is more the west-style). They have the best french fries ("Pommes") we had until now in Asia, great! Sad: They did not have a green pea ("Erbsensuppe") on stock. English speaking waitress, german speaking waiter (no wonder, he is borne german :-) ). Good place to stay, good place to eat, good place to drink. TV screens for international and german sport events. The MTR Entrance is only 1 minute walk away... but not the MTR, you need to walk maybe 5 minutes underground to go to the train. Direct beside is another Bar serving german White beer, if you like! They have also "Brezeln", a german special. I read in other reviews they had a very good one... no. They changed to make them self. No Salt, no crisp... taste "Sad". But anyway: enough to order there! Where do you get a mullet wine (Glühwein)...
Read moreWanted some beer on my HK trip since I came from Germany, but I really got disappointed. So first things first, they didn't have my favorite beer, which was an Augustiner Helles, and offered me an Augustiner Edelstoff, for those who don't drink beer, they are different and the employee said it was the same stuff. In the end, I decided for a Bitburger, and the moment I watch how she tapped it, it just hurt my German soul. It didn't help that they were playing music that really belonged into an American dinner instead which occasionally changes into a German radio station once in a while, as the TV was playing Tennis? I also wanted to order some food, but it's overpriced for what it is, just a Currywurst for over 120 HKD, the beer wasn't really cheap either and I didn't even get the Happy Hour deal when I was there during Happy Hour (Bitburger Maß 155HKD + 10% service fees, so 175 HKD compared to the Happy hour 120 HKD). All I can say is that I'm disappointed and would never go there again, which is quite unfortunate cause the owner seems nice and the place has potential, so it could really be just a service issue. At least the beer was nice and cold, otherwise the rating would have...
