Passing by @jkjpot in Jordan, we were instantly drawn in by the colorful animal cartoons on the walls. Having won @openrice_hk ‘Best Hot Pot Restaurant’, this yellow restaurant also serves chicken pot, but we’ll save that for another day. Upon being seated, the waiter gave us a bowl of hot water to wash our utensils and an erase board for us to place orders.
[Soup Base] Out of all the many soup base options, we couldn’t decide on just one, so we decided to try both the lobster and tofu milk. Although there wasn't any meat in the flavorful lobster stock, we were happy to find four pieces of smooth tofu in the light milky soup.
[Angus Beef] The marbling on each piece of tender beef gave it a silky texture that just melted in our mouths. We loved dipping it in the lobster bisque for a mellow taste while the milk soup added a naturally sweet flavor to the meat.
[Meat Balls] Out of the 4 kinds (cuttlefish, chicken, pork and shrimp), our favorite was the shrimp as it had the most distinctive taste, plus the texture was extra bouncy and soft.
[Vegetables] This ‘healthy basket’ consisted of different green leafy veggies including baby Chinese cabbage, lettuce and pak choi. However, the highlight was definitely the super sweet and plump corn that we totally did not expect.
[Apple Juice] I was quite impressed by the variety on the drinks menu, especially with the amount of non-canned beverages. The homemade apple juice with chewy pulps was super refreshing!

Read moreJKJ Pot offers mainly chicken pot and hot pot menu. What's different here is that normally after finishing the dry chicken pot, restaurants pours chicken broth/MSG soup inside. At JKJ, customers can choose the soup base they wanna add like tofu milk soup, satay soup or Chinese herbal soup.
The cat drawings on the walls and decorations all over the restaurant are definitely a reason for a cat lover like me to eat here!
We've had enough chicken pot lately so we went s for the dried scallop and shark fin chicken soup. On top of the mentioned ingredients, the soup consisted of Jinhua cured ham which made the soup more savory. After boiling for some time, the soup became thick and flavorful like stewed soup.
Homemade meatballs including cuttlefish, shrimp and pork were bouncy and nicely seasoned. The chicken meatball had a more tender texture.
Goose intestines were crunchy and slightly chewy. It didn't taste very strong so I put more garlic and spring onion to enjoy with. Sliced lamb had a balanced amount of fat and didn't taste too gamey.
Beer came in small bottles which was good for keeping fresh and cold.
Would try their chicken pot next time which smelt and...
Read moreReasonably prompt and appropriate services. Very mediocre decoration which does give a bit of a grunge local atmosphere. Very poor quality local hand-sliced beef and other food was just about below average. The best of the night is BYOB Alter Ego with a 100 hongkie for corkage. Very surprised that they actually gave me an Evaluation Form to fill out. 1300 hongkie for 3 persons. Probably would recommend a miss for all those who are tempted by the...
