I did enjoy the large variety of food options during breakfast, especially the build-to-order omelettes and the possibility to get fresh juices prepared for you.
However, there are a few small opportunities for improvement: When seated we were asked of we want tea or coffee. We were not asked which kind of tea or coffee, at first leaving the impression that there's just plain drip coffee and black tea. Only later we saw that you can also order cappuccino or espresso. Still don't know if they have more tea options. The interior design is not quite as nice as I've seen in other hotels. The low ceiling and furniture didn't make it feel as cozy as other places. Also you could be seated quite far away from the buffet, as we were. I liked the build-to-order egg station, but would have enjoyed some more options for ingredients. You could choose between mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, peppers and cheese. In other places I've also seen chives, bacon cubes, ham, avocado. Instead of keeping waffles heated in an oven, a station with a waffle iron would be nice. Fresh waffles are three times better than re-heated ones. At the bread station there are quite a lot of items (break, sweet pastries) that are for display/decoration only. I understand that you need to decorate your restaurant. But displaying pretty food items that you then actually cannot eat feels fake and actually disappointing.
Now as said, the food was tasty overall and the service was good. But given the issues mentioned above, the fairly high price point, and other breakfast buffets that I've seen in other hotels, I cannot give it a truly high rating. I recommend finding a dedicated cafe or...
Read moreThe food in general was just ok please don't tell me that's a Tom yam soup, the duck breast was tender but did not feel like sushuan style, fox don't hesitate to ask for more when you approach any food counter feels like they want to do the minimum, the salad section was ok but very limited cheese choice, I don't understand why they put a big basket of kiwi I wonder for decoration or what? Or have to deal with it ourselves to eat 1 kiwi better remove it and put somthing else, please guys you are paying 800hkd +10 percent service charge, ask them to cook the beef more it looks so raw if don't ask they will just give it to you like that, and the hagendaz ice cream you can only see the poster you need to ask them to give you one seems so precious, the air-conditioning is too Hight making you feel want to leave immediately and before you reach to seat your plate would be frozen already, when you ask for water refill they just pour hot water for you, not worth 800+10 percent can add little more and have fine dining experience, for me was complete...
Read moreYou will find buffets in many of the higher end hotels throughout Hong Kong including The Market at ICON in Hung Hum on the Kowloon Peninsula. Opening hours are 6.30pm to 10pm daily.
In recent years, this has been one of the most popular buffet options for local residents in Hong Kong. As such, best to make reservation on the ICON website if you want to try The Market.
I had lunch buffet here a couple months back and found it to be as good as any I've found in the city in quite a few years. Here you will find indoor and outdoor seating and an expected range of salads, grilled meats, sushi and shellfish as well as prepared Thai, Indian and other Asian foods. Everything I tried tasted fresh and very good. What I really liked about The Market was their dessert section, which features a range Durian themed sweets. These were really good.
In the end, I'm not much of a buffet person preferring lighter meals to all-you-can-eat spreads. However, if I were to choose a buffet to eat at in Hong Kong, it would be lunch at The Market at this...
