We went as it was highly recommended as cheap and delicious. Delicious yes - cheap definitely not. Ordering was absolutely shambolic with no organisation. 4-5 staff all taking orders, making drinks and getting cakes so there was a behind counter scrum to use the coffee machine or till. My server went off to get my cakes then came back and had to wait to make my coffee. It needs to be like Starbucks when someone takes order/money, next person gets food and another makes drinks. Equal scrum with no line and everyone trying to get to the counter. No trays provided so I had to make 5 trips from counter to table.
The toilets were absolutely disgusting, one flooded the other just nasty. But if you’re going to let groups of people walk in off the street all having had too much beer and still holding cups of beer use them it’s going to be like that.
So yes czech cakes and strudel amazing, nice staff and good coffee but no I’d probably...
Read moreI found this on Yelp during a trip to Eastern Europe. I really started to get sick of bread, meat, potatoes, goulash, etc.
I really wanted some fresh food. The first time I came by I had a quiche and juice. Both were superb. The second time, I brought my friends here and we shared a salad, another quiche, some baked goods, and coffee. Everything was amazing! I became friends w/ the owner-- Carolyn. She's SUCH a gem. Super sweet and passionate about healthy and delicious food. I was weary from travelling and Bakeshop was such a unique, welcome find in an area of Prague that's quite touristy. It's funny, my friends asked about parties or European guys, but's the little things like finding a connection and comfort in a cafe that I cherish. When I think about my trip to Eastern Europe, Bakeshop and Carolyn are such a fond memory.
Carolyn-- thank you for sharing your stories with me. I hope you find some kale someday, you...
Read moreI ordered a cake for a birthday, including a short text for which I paid 50 CZK. I also asked if a small drawing could be added, something quite common on bento cakes and was told it would be done, with no mention of any additional charge.
To my surprise, I later noticed I was charged an extra 100 CZK when I got home. After some back and forth over email, I was informed this charge was for the small drawing. Frankly, considering how minimal the drawing was compared to the paid text, this felt unfair.
In my experience with other bakeries, when I order bento cakes and pay for decorations or text - small drawings and color accents are typically included into decoration price, without extra fees. So this unexpected charge was a disappointing surprise.
The cake itself tasted great, but this small detail left a sour note on an otherwise...
