We wanted to visit this place for a while because their menu seemed interesting and the atmosphere seemed cozy. Unfortunately we left disappointed and surprised by the lack of quality and good service.
First, we both felt that our pizza was on the undercooked side and hard to chew. At the same time, the exterior of the pizza seemed cooked with some burned marks, which makes me conclude that the oven was too hot and thus burned the pizza’s exterior while leaving the dough undercooked.
The flavours were okay; I enjoyed the stracciatella on mine but the nduja felt burned, again likely because of the oven’s temp. My partner’s pizza was quattro formaggi but he felt that the tomato overpowered the cheese flavour and took away from the experience.
The service was okay; we had to go and ask for our cutlery because the waitress forgot to bring it to us after the pizzas were brought out, but mistakes happen, not an issue. What I am very confused by is the sign in Czech that reads that the garden is not serviced, and the ‘Order Here’ QR codes on the table. We had no issue using them, but we were weirded out that you need to give your full name, phone number and email to use them. What made the situation more confusing was the fact that the waitress came out to take the order of some tourists that came after us, yet when we sat down, noone came and we assumed we had no other choice but to use the QR code.
Overall the experience was kind of daunting and disappointing because we really wanted to like...
Read moreDelicious Neapolitan pizza in a great location! I really never heard about this place, I only stumbled upon it as we were walking by and when I saw the pizza I knew I had to come for a dinner. I didn't make a reservation but thankfully the waitress managed to squeeze us in, so definitely make a reservation if you want to be sure, even on a weeknight they are pretty much booked all evening! Service was super fast, I think we got our pizza in like 10-15 minutes. We ordered two pizzas, one with eggplant and the other one with goat cheese, honey and walnuts. Both were delicious, great dough, fluffy edges and thin middle. I especially recommend the goat cheese one as it's not a flavor you generally find and it's so delicious in combination with the sweet honey and crunchy walnuts. All pizzas are served with golden scissors which I feel is a nice elegant touch, though I prefer classic cutlery. (which is available as well) They do have both indoor and outdoor seating options, but you have to take the stairs if you want to stay indoors so just something to bare in mind if you're in a wheelchair and want...
Read moreHere's my review of "Gatto Nero" pizzeria:
I'm not gonna lie, Gatto Nero is a bit of a departure from the typical pizzeria concept I'm used to, but it definitely has its own charm. One thing that caught my attention right off the bat is the limited seating, so if you're looking to avoid crowded and noisy spots, I'd highly recommend booking a table in advance.
Now, onto the pizzas! We ordered three, including a classic margherita and two specials. The pizzas had a nice, high crust and a light, airy dough that reminded me of a traditional Neapolitan-style pizza. Overall, they were good, but I have to say that I wasn't a huge fan of the "Sopressa" pizza - specifically, the addition of honey, which I didn't think paired well with the other ingredients.
As for the desserts, we had mixed results. The tiramisu was absolutely fantastic, but I'd strongly advise against the cannolo.
All in all, if you're in the mood for a solid pizza, I'd definitely give Gatto Nero a shot. Just stick with the classics, and you...
