Restaurace U Zlatého Lva — Restaurant in Prague

My boyfriend and I happened to find this restaurant at the corner of the street. We were interested in eating like the local people so this restaurant was a perfect choice for us. We had potato dumplings and roasted ham. He had beer and I had local wine (St.Martin, both red and white). The dishes which had homemade touch were actually delicately made. I had seen many restaurants that offer good food with poor quality desserts (they are industrial). However, this restaurant was different. The construction of the ingredients of the dessert was modern and delicate as well. The chef must have brushed up the local family dishes into something more elegant and refined. This restaurant might be run by the family. They were nice and warm, and service was quick. My boyfriend and I had a great time. Thanks so much for the warm welcome, great food, and the relaxing atmosphere. It was our first time for us to happily agree to leave the tips during the trip to Vienna and Prague. You won our heart! We would definitely come back when we have a chance to visit...

We were there on 19.08.24.

Ordered a garlic soup. Which was a kind of spicy boiled water, with some potatoes and a cheese inside. Without the taste of the garlic which is by the way a pretty strong vegetable. Did not urderstand but we were directy after the arrival, were hungry so I did not really want to dispute.

The second plate (svíčková) was okay but I thought it will be a traditional, local food. When it arrived I just realized we have (almost) the same food in Hungary, called 'vadas' so next time I'll know what I will not order. Beer was okay. The waiter was a bit confused (or totally new in the business), or tired... 1000 czk was the...

If you want to get insulted and pay for it this is the place to go. Unbelievably disrespectful guy working there. I accidentally fold a coaster in two, put it back and tell him "sorry, Ill still use this one" and he starts yelling at me and on top of that starts talking shit in Czech to the other customers while pointing at us. Than my friend cleaned the crumbs he left on the table, but still got yelled at that "its not a restaurant" even though it clearly says restaurant (??). The waiter should either find someone to love or find a therapist, but he needs to sort out why he is so miserable he feels like he needs to...
