I had only two days at Prague and excited to experience the traditional and well made Czech cuisine. I had three dishes- Roast of Ricansky with pulffy herb dumplings, fish pie with grilled/smoked trout cream soup, and the famous dessert “Vetrnik”. The roast ricansky and the dumpling was amazing, the sauce was delicious and the beef was cooked right to be softly merge with the sauce. The dumplings were very herbal which made a good combo with the beef, I was first worried that how two carb based could go along, but the dumplings almost felt like a fresh veggie due to its fresh ingredients and the scent of the thyme. The first dish was no doubt amazing. However, I didn’t like the second dish, the fish pie trout soup. The trout was too fishy to me that the smell prolonged in my mouth even after the meal was all done, quite not pleasant. Personally, I thought some of the vegetables in the soup was slightly overcooked, not complementing the heavy creaminess of the soup base. When I cracked the pie, it cracked leaving the crumbles all over the table which is hard to not make the mess and this wasn’t that pleasant as well. The third dessert, Vetrnik was amazing. It was one of the best desserts I had, the cream was so fresh that merged with the crunchiness of the caramel, not too sweat, just so right and delicious. It was incredible! Except for the second dish, the trout pie soup, the rest were perfect five stars and I will visit again to experience other dishes in the future. The service was great, I liked the modest, humble atmosphere of the...

'Výčep' was, without a question, the best culinary experience of our most recent visit to Prague. I suspect the Chef must be a magician of sorts because his interpretations of the regional (Walachia) classics were pure magic. Also, their house sourdough bread is second to none; their butter is a form of a home-made delight; and the soured cream is so good you will want to eat it straight by the spoonful (we did!).
While I would say that meat is the dominant feature of the chef’s repertoire, he willingly accommodated the odd vegetarian of the group. In fact, I would argue that the vegetarian dish he delivered merits its own spot on the menu. It was satisfying, and it tasted as delicious as it looked. (Speaking of which, the all-around presentation scored top marks from me.)
If you happen to not be a beer aficionado, the Vyčep's wine list features a careful selection of Czech wines to enhance your feasting. The ambiance, their staff and the service are top-notch. Our only concern of the evening was how to make room for dessert, which judging by the meals we were indulging in, was probably not something to be missed. (This turned out to be a correct assumption.) Thankfully, our indulgence was aided by a series of delicious variations of traditional digestives (creative house infusions featuring slivovica and calvados).
If you find yourself in Prague, or its Vinohrady /Žižkov neighbourhoods, do not miss the culinary gem that is the Vyčep-- it is so much more than the name may suggest. We cannot...
Read moreThe perfect day starts with pastry from Kus Koláče next store and ends with dinner here, as my friend and I recently learned. The food was so exquisite that it tempted me to cancel my flight home so I could experience their tasting menu- but alas, I abstained. This was seriously the best meal I had over 2 weeks and 2 previous trips to this foodie capital. An amuse boché was served - I’d recommend ordering a drink to pair. Ordering the chicken entree comes with a delightful show - but I won’t spoil the surprise other than that it left me smiling ear to ear. Everything we ordered came with unique flavors, textures, and other sensations. Elevated Czech+, for sure. In between dishes, the service was immaculate. We were pampered like princes- table wiped and cutlery changed with each course, consistently waited on and needs proactively fulfilled. It’s pricey - of course it is - for this level of food, service, and atmosphere. Ah, speaking of - atmosphere! The decor was lovely, even if you subtract the sunset helping it become magical- I’m not sure how to describe it, but it was like if your grandma was also an interior designer. In short: it’s refined while feeling homey and comfortable. I’d come to prague again just to eat here :)
(PS - I recommend reserving in advance - we got lucky with an available table, but it quickly got busier as we...
