A must place to visit when in Prague. The restaurant offers an unique dining experience just outside city centre. Great atmosphere, friendly, caring and knowledgeable staff, sparkling clean restaurant. Menu is modern with some traditional components in combination with local produce and attention to detail you'll get an delicious art on the plate. The flavour combination of some dishes was unusual but surprisingly very well paired and played together just marvellously.
To start with, the 3 of us ordered a selection of canapés as well as tomatoes with goat cheese custard. Chef's skills were introduced right away. Great selection and balanced flavours. All you would expect from introduction.
Main dish was suggested by our friendly waitress. Vallmo Feast. Truth to be told here. The name of the dish does not mislead. A top of that we ordered a fried Oyster mushroom with vegan mayo from their daily offer. What was brought on the table was a pure art playing with flavours and colours. Duck made three ways, again showed chef's and his team skills.
Fairly stuffed at this point we decided to share Chef's signature poppy seed custard. Out of this world, thick, not too sweet, well balanced. That sort of finish you need to get after the Feast.
Points to highlight:
Staff - hard to come by people these days who act naturally, with general interest and knowledge. Warm welcome, attentive, always smiling - that was brilliant!
Kitchen - combination of modern European cousine combined with local produce and skill takes you on the journey to experience flavour in a new creative way - amazing!
Bathrooms - it just makes you feel like at home -...
Read moreWe came to this restaurant for a dinner on Monday evening with my sister and we have been really impressed and pleasantly surprised. This place is a gem in Prague, I would absolutely recommend it for any occasion. The restaurant has quite relaxed and home-like atmosphere, interior is with mainly simple wood fittings and muted tones. The staff were exceptionally attentive and very friendly, something you can rarely see in Prague. I appreciated the attention to detail, our host explained the menu and all ingredients, even recommended the combination of the dishes and shared the story of the restaurant. Food was one of the best Iâve tried from Czech cuisine, in this restaurant they serve a perfect mix of traditional Czech food influenced by European and Nordic modern presentation. We had the snack bar to start with and as a main we ordered a duck for two persons, which was served with potato gratin, zucchini, farm salad and smoked rhubarb. Each part of the duck was prepared in different ways and served separately. Everything was super delicious and food literally melted in mouth. I would recommend tasting everything and not being afraid of combinations that do not always look good at first glance. Each dish has its own charm and it is truly a gastronomic experience. All in all, this place is the best introduction to modern Czech cuisine for very reasonable price, away from loud and busy tourist spots. You can definitely feel that owners put together all their experience gained in different countries and created an amazing restaurant that has a heart and most importantly Quality. Canât wait to return to Vallmo to try...
Read moreI picked Vallmo for dinner from Eaterâs list of restaurants in Prague because it sounded as if they could accommodate people like us who donât eat a lot of meat. They could. But what we didnât quite anticipate was that everything about our meal would be so excellent. Itâs the best meal weâve had in Prague in our three visits to the city.
Diners have a choice of 4, 6, or 8 courses. The highlights of our 4-course dinner were a cabbage cake prepared roti-style with a nice umami hit from a sort of stew with mushrooms, cheese and garlic. My main course was braised lamb neck, falling off the bone, served with crispy gnocchi, sheep cheese and slightly pickled tomatoes. My wife loved her mushroom ragout. We both loved the restaurantâs silly and delicious poppy seed custard as a dessert. Portions were large enough so you had several tastes of each dish, but small enough to keep you wanting more.
The food was sophisticated without being fussy or stuffy. Every dish we ate was absolutely delicious and you could tell that the food was prepared from excellent ingredients and that there was a keen culinary intelligence behind it. Vallmoâs small dining room feels spacious but is small enough to feel comfortable and quiet. The staff is really enthusiastic about whatâs happening at the restaurant: service is knowledgable, friendly and gracious.
Since we were in Prague, we took a chance on a bottle of Czech pinot noir that our server recommended. I was dubious at first taste, but once the wine opened up, it was perfect with our food. So thereâs also someone with a keen sense of what wine works with Vallmoâs food putting together...
