We unfortunately had a quite disappointing experience at Hooked by Halmtorvet. We, a group of 4, stood at the door, as directed by the signs outside, to wait for seating for 10+ minutes without as much as getting recognized by a waiter or staff member. They just walked right past us, as if we were air, and did not as much as smile or let us know we would be serviced soon. A simple “we’ll be right there” would have sufficed. After a lot of contemplation, and against our better judgement, we decided to stay. We all wish we had just left right there, but it was late, and we had been searching for a place for a long time.
We sit down, we order, and the staff are nice when finally acknowledging us. We get beer for the table, and unfortunately it is flat as a pancake. Stale. So dead, it could be buried alongside my grandfather in 2022. After more contemplation, we decide to kindly let the staff know, by approaching them in the bar. They would likely want to prevent other customers from getting a similar experience, right? Nope. “That happens when getting a pitcher. “?? What? All 4 of us have worked in bars, and no beer should be able to go that flat after being poured into a pitcher - especially when being consumed seconds after the beer was poured into said pitcher. Should that be the case, however, maybe don’t serve beers in pitchers, then? After some back and forth with the staff to no avail, the waitress suggests that she would go check the keg, and see if something’s wrong - but instead of doing so, we overhear her calling another waitress over, who tastes a glass and says “tastes fine to me”. Nobody goes to check the keg, and we don’t get any follow-ups.
Unfortunately, to make matters worse, the food was not worth the wait to be seated AT ALL. The portion sizes are microscopic, and while half of them are delicious, the gyoza tastes off and store-bought, the tostada tortilla tastes stale and old, the rice in the poke bowl are hard (some can’t be chewed), the calamari tastes like overly fried rubber, and the signature Fish’n’Chips is dry and somewhat cold when it arrives.
We’ve all had Hooked before at other locations, with great experiences, and we all really enjoy fish. However, this dining experience left us all quite dissatisfied, and with regret that we didn’t spend our money (and not exactly a small amount, at that) someplace else.
We’ve all worked in hospitality, and a stressful day is forgivable, but the place wasn’t even filled out on the inside, and the tempo was mid at best.
A shame, all in...
Read moreWe are so glad we found this place. We came early for our reservation (around 17:15 instead of 18:00 on a saturday) and the place was empty, which made us a little hesitant, but we sat down. That was a great decision! (By 18:00 It was almost full so book on weekends, but it’s easy through their website). We ordered a side of fried calmari and coleslaw (based on celery root, with almonds and pickles - It’s a MUST because it was absolutely delicious!), lobster rolls - 1 asian and 1 american style - both combo with fries and 2 dips (black garlic mayo and tartare). The food was delicious! The perfectly toasted brioche with the lobster very tasty in both versions along with very good fries. The dips were the least exciting - it would be great if they work on that a little and they are definitely missing a spicy mayo option, but that did not affect our judgement much because they were OK and the rest was really great. The only other thing - the lobster rolls are really small so if you are really hungry, order more sides or get a burger. The prices are very reasonable for Copenhagen, but compared to other parts of Europe, very expensive, like everything around here. The service was super nice! Overall would definitely come back again, especially to try the...
Read moreThis fish restaurant has quite a good reputation so I decided to give it a try. I booked in advance just to make sure I can find a table, but it was only half full when I arrived. I ordered Mac and Cheese Croquettes, Tempura shrimps as appetizers, they were very tasty, crunchy on the outside and came with a very tasty dipping sauce, then I ordered the salmon fish cake sandwich, it comes in a soft bun. The avocado, tomato, red onion and red cabbage added a very fresh taste to the sandwich. Then I couldn't leave without ordering the classic fish and chips, they were phenomenal as well. I tried the roskilde blonde beer and it had a very interesting fruity taste, I believe it is my favorite beer in Copenhagen. The waitress was friendly and we were served relatively quickly. The prices are a bit on the higher end, but it's expected with this high quality of ingredients, don't leave Copenhagen without...
