Beautiful place

Some dishes (especially meat dishes and bread) were really good, tender and tasty, others were a bit bland like the smoked trout. I’m not sure I will be able to understand the Jerusalem artichoke dessert on a “French toast” that had little of a French toast (it did not seem to have been dipped in seasoned eggs at all and wasn’t sweet) - overall i would not be able to consider it a dessert; but I appreciate the attempt in looking outside of the box.

I don’t know if we were just unlucky that night, but the service was quite bad for different reasons. the commis (assistant of the waiter) had no charisma, no attention to details (see, for example, the placement of cutlery on the table in the picture) and always had us pass the plates to them at the end of the table when cleaning up. Zero effort from their side. it seemed like the main waiter did not really know what they were doing when serving wine. For the wine paring, especially for white, the amount of wine was really low, something like 7-8cl, but when serving red wine the glass was filled with at least 15cl. When paying over 500,- for 4 glasses of wine, please don’t give me the feeling of being tight-fisted for a glass of wine. another waiter who came help serving/cleaning the last two courses was clearly tipsy/drunk. First, when serving the course, they shouted “WHO’S HAVING THE TASTING MENU?” in a completely calm environment, then he became even more uncouth as the evening progressed. lastly, after serving the dessert, the waiters disappeared. They did not even come to clean up the table, until the main waiter passed by (dressed to go home in sweatpants) and we stopped him to ask for coffees. In my experience, the service shouldn’t stop at least until the coffee cups are cleared from the table.

Frankly, from a Michelin guide restaurant and for the price paid, certain fine-dining standards must be met at least in service and mise en place. Drunk...

Cockroaches, Chaos and Vouchers – Not Michelin Level at All.

My dining partner and I visited Restaurant Koefoed last night, and it was nowhere near Bib Gourmand level. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed and chaotic – not in a cozy, buzzing way, but messy and stressful. Dirty tables stood uncleared, trays and glasses were everywhere, and the staff were clearly under pressure.

The food, once it finally arrived, was tasty, but the atmosphere made it hard to enjoy. Service felt rushed, there were long gaps between courses, and the wine pairing was presented with only the grape and country – nothing more. For over 1000 DKK per person, we expected much higher quality.

We noticed many guests handing in vouchers and later learned it was a “special deal” that brings in large groups at discounted prices. This explained the overcrowding and mass-production feel. Unfortunately, it drowned out the fine dining experience that food-loving tourists like us had hoped for. And to make matters worse: cockroaches in the restroom..

When we asked about the restaurant’s supposed Bornholm connection (having had a wonderful dinner at Kadeau Bornholm last year), we were told only that a former owner was from the island. It feels misleading to market themselves so heavily on Bornholm when there is no real link.

That said, the waiters did their very best under impossible conditions. A special mention goes to Nico, who kept a good mood, a smile, and gave excellent service despite the stressful situation. Sadly, even the friendliest staff can’t make up for a concept that simply doesn’t deliver on the Michelin promise.

For a true dining experience, Copenhagen has many other fantastic restaurants – I’d recommend choosing one of...

Went with work, so didn't pick up the bill... insert massive sigh of relief. Koefoed is a Danish restaurant with a focus on the beautiful island of Bornholm. Located a stone throw from Kongens Nytorv, they offer a meat and a fish menu, as well as the opportunity to order a la carte. The service is really good, the waiters very friendly (although not always able to solve the "how do I collect the plate from the person at the corner of the long table" problem efficiently), and the food good. The deconstructed (if the term irritates you, it's normal) Sol Over Gudhjem is excellent, the savory æbleskiver not very much. The onion crackling good, the salted cod with oyster sauce just okay (bit misleading to just state "oysters" in the menu). Chicken wings in mushroom sauce very good, and the lamb excellent, minus the acidy sauce and the raw courgette. Didn't make it to dessert for time limitations. Portions are tiny. We were served some surprisingly good German wine (I'm personally not a fan). The issue is, like often these days in Copenhagen, the price tag. You won't leave with less than 1k kr per head, counting the wine. And that's really a lot, especially considering the portion size. For fans of experiences, but if you're looking for an actual meal... honestly not sure if 2022 Copenhagen is the...
