An unexpected surprise! Who would have thought I’d find a Filipino restaurant in Helsinki? And unlike Filipino restaurants in other European countries I’ve been to, Pobre unabashedly fuses Filipino cuisine with European tastes, elevating both to an experience that both cultures would love. The pork ribs melted in my mouth. Olena, the lovely waitress attending to me all night, said that it’s a secret family recipe. I smelled a hint of bagoong but it might be fish sauce I was tasting. There was probably some sweet and sour Thai sauce in the mix. I’ll try to recreate it at home. The lobster pancit was a pleasant surprise. It’s probably the most expensive pancit (32 euros) I’ve had in my life but it was well worth it! It had some crispy tofu and hints of peanuts which reminded me of palabok. Finally, the calamansi dessert was divine! A teeny weeny surprise within the plate reminded me of my childhood and it made me almost tear up. I will definitely return to try more of the menu. .(=

It was truly a pleasure to spend the evening with good food and drinks. The cheerful service started the moment we entered and carried on through out the night. The place was absolutely packed but the staff didn't show any sings of rush to us customers. So a big thank you to the waiting staff - you complete the experience for us diners. The food on its own was a spectacular performance by the chefs. Simple and clean flavors never overpowered the actual main components like clams and squid. Less is truly more in every dish. Usually it appears that the starters tend to be much better than the main courses but this time every dish held their own and were all on the same level. Drinkwise, the cocktails were well made, tasty and complimented the food very well. In short, please don't change anything. Everything seems to work very well from the customers point of view. The concept if very well thought of and holds it together exceptionally well. We will definetly come again.

Finger-licking good! The food is very delicious. We took the Classic and Special sets and shared many nice flavours together. As a main I loved the presentaion and the flavour of the Beef Ilustrado. My boyfriend enjoyed his Seafood Adobo. The Pobre beer is also very tasty! Few very slight minuses: the corns were not hot, or even warm anymore, and the qrocuetta was rather boring. The bread was also rather oily, and together with some sort of saltless buttery spread it did not taste anything but grease. Also, after all these various dishes, I am still not that full at all, or even slightly hungry (and I am rather small girl). The house spicy sauce and especially the spicy 'pickle' were nice, I hope there would be more (maybe in small jars in the table), and available from the very start (it would have added flavour to the bland bread experience :))

Do NOT waste your time or euros at Pobre Helsinki unless you enjoy being disrespected, ignored, and served raw meat by a waitress who treats customers like trash.

Our group of friends walked in excited to try tapas (you know, the kind you share?). Instead, we met the rudest, most condescending older waitress in Finland. She didn’t speak Finnish or Swedish – fine, but her attitude was VILE. When we politely asked for starter recommendations, she snapped, “Just order 4x of the same thing or soup.” Wow, Michelin-level advice!

We told her we were waiting for one friend to arrive before ordering mains. Did she care? NOPE. She slammed the starters down before our friend even walked in. Then came the “main event”: we ordered two identical meat dishes – cooked veery differently (one raw, the other medium-well). When I pointed this out (as we dont like raw meat), she had the AUDACITY to BLAME ME in front of the entire restaurant! “It’s your fault,” she hissed. Excuse me? Your job is to serve food, not serve attitude and incompetence.

The entire night was a dumpster fire. We should’ve walked out, but we naively hoped it’d improve. Spoiler: IT DIDN’T.

To the owner: Train your staff or rename this place “Pobre Service” to match the experience. Your waitress single-handedly destroyed what should’ve been a fun night. We’ll never return, and we’ll tell everyone to avoid this arrogant, overpriced joke of...

I just had dinner in this place last night with my in-laws and we were very disappointed. First of all, the waiter came to get our orders and he was leaning forward on our table his face was very closed to my father in-laws wine glass! Very unhygienic. Secondly, he wasn’t sure if the kare-kare was beef or pork! Thirdly, my mother in-law asked for a cold white wine (it was our 2nd bottle, 1st one was served warm) he served us again another warm wine! I was very embarrassed to my in-laws. But the worst of all was, the waitress was giving us wrong foods! She came with two mains which wasn’t ours and when we told her that these was not our order and that we believed we should start with our appetizers first, she was surprised like “oh you ordered appetizers? Come on girl be attentive and give the right food to the right table not going around with plates of food in your hands trying to find the right table! It was a very bad service and so unprofessional. Oh and btw, foods were just ok not great or excellent. We couldn’t finished all the courses. I didn’t eat my dessert it was way too sweet! I am proud to be a filipina but I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant especially with people who have high foods...

I liked to go to Pobre for lunch every now and then, but my last experience was not so enjoyable anymore. The atmosphere in the restaurant suits the concept. Nothing fancy, but it's great for a quick meal.

At my last visit I that I return the dish that I ordered, because it was way too salty and flavors were not balanced. I like salt a lot, but this was way over it. Service was kind and served another dish I asked for instead. Generally there is no real table service. You order at the counter and get your meal to the table. That's about it with the service.

What changed my opinion from a decent lunch place to not that good anymore are the price/quantity ratio and the off balanced flavors. Portions got smaller and are not filling anymore. The taste of the food was always something different, often on the sweet side, which can be a bit too much for the general taste, but adding sugar is common in a lot of asian cuisine's. It can prevent the natural flavors to come through and covering them up, if used to much.

If you want to come back on track, you have to balance out...
