In short - a taste disaster, covered up by a "modern fusion" narrative and club setting.
Food - they call it modern interpretation or fusion or whatever - the irony is that the best dish in this Japanese restaurant was the Beef Taco. Only the menu vocabulary is Japanese.
Spicy Tofu - the tofu was the low-class brown one, not the silky and smooth traditional Asian one. For the price of the dish -pure shame. Cucumber Sunomono - should be at least a bit pickled, but no, you get some fresh cucumbers drowning in vinegar. Oven Baked Crab Roll - in the picture below. Looks and tastes as if someone already ate it and could barely hold it in. Miso Soup - pure salt, uneatable.
Ambience - the feel of a "posh" and kitsch Eastern-European club
Service - They try to put you on the table right at the entrance. If you complain, they grumpily move you to a better table (note the restaurant was empty when we arrived). And they do this for every new customer, until someone is OK to sit at the gate of Mordor or no other tables are available. There are far too many waiters, yet only two chefs, so food is delivered slowly and you just notice a constant frantic movement of staff around you.
In conclusion - save yourself the overpriced mediocre fusion food and service, and head to a real...
Read moreThe food was excellent, the service unfortunately incredibly bad. You get the feeling that the staff wants you to leave the restaurant as soon as possible. No matter how much you order, starters, soups, main courses, everything is prepared in 5 minutes and put on the table at the same time. A 4 course dinner at Akira can be over after 45 minutes. In any fast food restaurant you sit longer and more comfortable to eat. Used and dirty dishes and napkins are only removed and replaced after a proactive request. Drinks are poured yourself. For a restaurant that serves such high-priced food and drinks, the overall picture is unfortunately a total flop. Perhaps Akira will appeal to people who only care about appearances - all that counts is "fancy". For all those who know about upscale gastronomy, the restaurant is unfortunately at the bottom of the list. It is sad to see that such a great chef and excellent food can be spoiled by such miserable service. My conclusion for the Akira Bak: Food top, the rest...
Read moreHonestly, I was very disappointed by this new restaurant. I was really looking forward to trying it and had high expectations given how it is described (see their website). Looking at the menu, I asked if the restaurant offered any omakase. The answer was: “a what??” I said “you know when the chef build a menu for you”… The “pizza” was indeed very good. But the rest was so so. The rice in the rolls is replaced by crab (but this isn’t mentioned at the order). It tastes weird. When I asked about the sushi selection, I was suggested not to have sushis, and to favor other dishes since “sushis are sushis you can find anywhere”. After I wanted to have matcha and the waiter didn’t know the difference between genmaicha and matcha. Last, the chocolate dessert was ok-ish. Overall overpriced experience, would not recommend it to...
