First time eating here as it was recommended by some TA advisors. We made a reservation online for a Saturday night and we were able to get a table.
Service is excellent at this resto, especially the young tall dark male who was very experienced and so friendly. He made us feel extremely welcomed and he was excellent...I just wish we had asked him for his name.
All the food we had along with the price points were excellent and the reason for the 1 star deduction is for the sole meunière. It was not dover sole and it was a little overcooked and the fish was not as tender or smooth as a dover sole. But, i can't complain at 30 euros for it as it also came with a lovely side of cooked veggies.
We loved the "Happy Huitres" at 10 euros all day long which included 6 lovely fresh and quite large oysters with a glass of white wine. Without the wine, 6 of the oysters would have been 9 euros. We also had the little fried sardines at 8 euros...very tasty but it would have been much better if it were crispy and hot which it wasn't. We also had the fish soup at 8 euros and it was a good sized bowl ...good for sharing. Our last appy at 8 euros was the curry cream mussels...very tasty.
For our main, one of us had the Daurade pan fried whole fish at 21 euros which came with a carrot puree side. The fish was very flaky, fresh, and tasty. My husband and I also had the sole meunière at 30 euros each and I asked for a cooked veggie side while my husband had the salad side. It is a little disappointing it wasn't dover sole as our fish was not as tender or flaky.
The service is wonderful by all and the manager/owner was extremely welcoming and friendly.
Bar a Iode price points are very attractive unlike so many of these touristy rip off restaurants. They also had skate wings at 18 euros; fish and chips at 15 euros; and salmon as well.
I would highly recommend Bar a Iode and we will definitely return but we will try a different fish iso the sole.
Wonderful little restaurant with very fresh oysters and fish at a very good price point.
Thank you to all...
Read moreIt could have been better. And it should be. Nice little oyster bar and restaurant, with a beautiful ambience. Service is disorganised and poor, despite Carlos on top on everyone and everything. He does a great job, and the young waiters are going to learn and improve soon, they're just young and inexperienced. They clearly are being trained on the job, but it's a Saturday night!
My oysters were ok. Nothing impressive, they were good and clean, thank you. Wine at the glass was also good for the very reasonable price. Thank you. Fish and chips were, unfortunately, terrible. The banter was not cooked and I guess the fish was not fried at all. Surprisingly, the upper part came with some burnt spots, like if they tried to cook the bantered fish by throwing it under a...
Read moreSuch a wonderful restaurant! But we did face language misunderstanding… We asked how the shrimp was cooked. Waiter: “Oh, it’s not cooked, it’s raw.” Me: “You mean like sushi?” W: “Yes” Me: “Okayyy, how’s the crab cooked?” W: “That’s raw, too.”’ After more questions trying to elicit their definition of “raw”, we still weren’t clear. How can crab be raw? I ordered it. It is a whole COOKED (boiled) crab, sliced through the top. Not sure what kind. A wonderfully messy meal, but it is only crab - no veggies or potatoes, with the best garlic Mayo ever tasted.
My husband ordered the fish and chips; said the fish was the best he’s ever had. And my friend’s seafood salad (that included COOKED shrimp) was awesome! Just a fantastic restaurant, but...
