Late lunch on 09/07/23 (mm/dd/yy): Bresse chicken with morel mushrooms, octopus with lentils, crepe Suzette, and raspberry and lemon sorbet. Chicken meat was super tender (not sure if it should remain pink near the bones and all of the wing parts though). Morel mushrooms reminded me of the morel soups served on KLM flights. Octopus dish was just ok. Crepe Suzette prep is a good show. Selected sorbets were good. The service was excellent on this occasion. We had a good time.
Late dinner on 09/08/23: Burgundy snails in butter, risotto with prawns, burger, and raspberry, strawberry, lemon, and pear sorbets. Every dish was excellent. I particularly loved the prawns and pear sorbet. The service was beyond excellent. The guy was sharp and efficient.
Early dinner on 09/09/23: Onion soup, Lyonnaise salad, veal cutlet, veal liver, and raspberry, chocolate, and pear sorbets. Everything was good. Love the Lyonnaise salad and pear sorbets. The service we got this time was mediocre. Our server was serving eight tables (of two) at one point. Made quite a few mistakes on both our and nearby tables. Better take notes if you have to serve that many tables instead of trying to just use your memory. Another server we liked from previous dinner was spotted training at least three different servers at various times (he oversaw the bread cutting, demonstrating how to use “iPad” for seat assignments, etc) and served two tables of four. We wish we had him again instead. Yes, we were there waiting between dishes for a long time to have...
Read moreHighly mediocre - I never eat at hotel restaurants because they are usually underwhelming, and those right by a tourist destination like the Louvre, doubly so. I made an exception given that Brasserie du Louvre shows up on the Michelin guide but oh my, what a mistake.
The squash blossoms were so heavily breaded there was no point or essence of the flower at all. The gougeres were just “rich” with no discernible other flavors. The duck was so overcooked I had to send it back (I’ve sent back dishes literally twice before in my 38 years of life) - once properly cooked, it was flavorful, though the portion was quite large.
The wine was good going down but left us with headaches - unlike everywhere else we are in Paris - and the advertised beautiful terrace with views of the sites was a ground floor boxed in patio with views of the metro steps and a tourist tchotchke stand. Staff was kind - and indeed, the overcooked duck was taken care of - but it could not make up for the immense shortcomings.
Paris is full of exceptional food, from the highly creative to the perfectly done classic. Brasserie du Louvre was an utter waste of a dining opportunity, a night in...
Read moreWe were in the area by the museum and were tired and hungry and hot from 91F degree weather. This came up on the list and we walked over. At first we weren't sure the place was open because no one else was eating there. But we went in and asked and glad we did.
The BEST French restaurant we tried. The decor, service, and food were impeccable. The place is air conditioned and they they brought us cold water and drinks. The service was also top notch.
Probably the only French restaurant we received real service. My kids were asking why we didn't to there for every meal.
The food was not only picture worthy but also impeccably prepared. The appetizers were amazing. The main meals, the best we had in Paris. We ordered the steak, risotto, and the veal. All were prepared with amazing finesse and taste.
The deserts were also amazing. Table side crepes Suzette and creme brulee.
I could go on but you get the idea. If we hadn't wandered in, not sure if my high expectations for French food would have been met during our Paris trip. Many thanks to the staff and chef at...
