Café Alice — Restaurant in Paris

The main reason for my five star review is that, in my humble opinion, this place serves the best espresso we've tried during our week in Paris. The manager says he's meticulous with the machine's upkeep. I'd say it's true because the coffee doesn't taste like it has residual tanins. It's strong and smooth. We returned on our final day in Paris just for the espresso.

The food we tried from the menu: a cheeseburger, a chicken cutlet, a smoked salmon, croissant, a Nutella crepe and a strawberry crepe were good but not memorable. Of course, our food choices were pretty standard, but so is the menu.

We arrived here without a recommendation, after deciding to skip the highly popular sandwich shop down the block. It was an emergency meal since we were starving (especially our teenaged son), which can be dangerous when traveling.

Similar experience as another reviewer where server was rude, rushed, etc. The food was equally unimpressive. The only redeeming thing was my husband's burger and my glass of wine. The French onion soup came out at the same time as our food, but no matter, I didn't eat it, nor did my husband. I had to pull out full bay leaves and stems from other herbs, the cheese was clumped, and bread tasted as stale as what was served on the table. My Cordon Bleu was dry despite all the cream sauce, clearly...

Beef tartare was delicious, classic flavors, and it tasted fantastic. I didn't have the courage to try the Thai Beef Tartare on the daily menu... It seemed like a risk, especially when I asked the server if it was good and she just shrugged her shoulders and rolled her eyes. Fries were great. Dressing on salad was super.
