We made a reservation at Loufoque Bar et Restaurant, thinking it was primarily a board game bar where we could enjoy games and order as we go. Nowhere during the reservation process did the mandatory meal requirement stand out clearly. When we arrived, no one informed us of this policy either.
We were already paying 6 euros per person to play the games, so we didn’t expect there would be an additional obligation to order food. About 30 minutes after we were seated and had just started playing, a server interrupted us. We said we weren’t planning to order anything for now. He left, then came back and told us that if we weren’t ordering, we had to vacate the table.
At that point, we ordered one drink per person — which seems perfectly normal. We’re not going to share a single drink between six people, and it’s completely reasonable to start with a drink before deciding whether to get food.
Maybe their policy is valid, but the way it was handled really wasn’t. It was obvious that we didn’t know about the rule, and instead of addressing it with understanding from the beginning, the situation became awkward and uncomfortable. If we had been told clearly upon arrival — or if the policy had been made more visible when booking — we would’ve just left and avoided the confusion altogether.
We also assumed food wasn’t required because 1) the name includes bar, and 2) we had previously been to another Loufoque location, played games, ordered drinks, and no one said anything about food being mandatory.
Lastly, their response to our review was surprisingly accusing . We’re simply sharing our experience — respectfully — and our point of view. That’s the purpose of a review. Different opinions don’t mean...
Read moreWhen we entered, the server told us that there are no warm drinks but everything else on the menu is fine. Whenever we tried to order something, he kept saying sorry we don’t have that so we ended up ordering things we barely liked to begin with. The entire time we were there, that same server was looking at us with a condescending face (he was sitting with his back to us so he literally had to turn his head 180° and we were the only table he did that for. Finally, when we got up to leave after paying, he said something in French to us and him and the other people working there started laughing so we felt like he was mocking us. The vibe of the place was nice so it’s a shame the service was so poor. Wouldn’t recommend
Edit: he showed us the boissons chauds as a category and told us that he can’t serve anything from that category, he didn’t specify that nothing hot, including food was unavailable. It is a mistake that can happen due to language barriers and that was not the main problem. As for the hot wine, it was not served, it was hot tea that was served. The intention was never to bully, just to share the experience, you have numerous really good reviews so I don’t see how an honest bad experience can affect you to the point where you think it is bullying. As for the server, please understand that when you don’t speak the language and someone says something in French to you and the others laugh, you receive it as mocking. I hope you take our review not as bullying, but consider it to avoid future problems...
Read moreWe made a reservation online for a board game evening, but nowhere during the booking process was it clearly stated that ordering food was mandatory. When we arrived, no one from the staff informed us either. We were seated, started playing, and paid the entry fee, thinking drinks or light snacks would be fine. Only later were we told that with a reservation, a full meal is required. We had already eaten, so we just ordered drinks. Then, about 30 minutes after receiving our drinks, we were told to leave the table because we weren’t eating.
This was very poorly communicated, both on the reservation site and by the staff. If food is obligatory with a reservation, that should be made absolutely clear from the beginning—before people are seated or start paying. The whole experience felt abrupt and unwelcoming. Definitely not the kind of service...
