After a disastrous detour at Pizza Tivoli down the street, my wife and I ditched the drama and opted for something a bit more comforting--Thai food in the heart of Paris. Our group split up, and we rolled the dice with Thai Thai. Fortunately, this gamble paid off.
To our surprise--and delight--the chicken Pad Thai was exceptional. Rich, savory, perfectly balanced in flavor, and honestly, some of the best I've had anywhere. Add to that a reasonable price point, and things were looking up.
So why not five stars?
Well, timing is everything. My plate arrived a full 10 minutes before my wife's, despite us ordering the exact same dish. Not the end of the world, but definitely odd.
Then, the mint incident. At the end of our meal, the server brought two tiny complimentary mints. We have three kids, so I casually took an extra from the dish. Harmless, I thought--but the server clearly didn't agree. A disapproving comment and a subtle shake of the head later, and suddenly I was a mint thief in their eyes.
Small things, sure--but enough to knock it down a notch. That said, I'd go back for the Pad Thai alone--next time I'll just BYOM (Bring...
Read moreThe main food was delicious, so if you're purely about the food it's good. It's a bit on the pricier side at 17 euros for a main dish. A few issues that made my overall experience less than satisfactory though:
I didn't like that I was given the rice cakes without being asked, as if to imply that they were complimentary (most restaurants give free items without asking), because I was then charged 3 euros for it. I would have said no if I was told they weren't free -- I ate just one because I don't care for them. Dinner came to 20e.
The wine glass inside was full of lint from someone drying it with a towel. I got a new one though. I wonder how many guests get lint in theirs.
The owner's friend smoked a cigarette while sitting next to the open door to the main restaurant, letting in the smoke.
For the base price of 17e, I'd have wanted a better experience with #1, 2, and 3.
I think I'll would take my chances with other Thai restaurants before trying this...
Read moreOut of the blue one day we decided to give this restaurant a try and it did not disappoint. Normally outside of Thailand the restaurants differs as they had to cater to local taste but this place served us the best Yam Som Oh even better than Thailand itself! The owner was absolutely chuffed over the compliment. Aside from the salad, we had Pad Thai, Fried Chicken, Green Curry, Red Curry fried with Chicken, Tom Yam, Pineapple Fried Rice, Chicken with Garlic and Pepper plus Mango Rice over the next 3 days. We requested for additional chillies or Nam Phrik, the portion given was generous too. We had no problems communicating with them as they were fluent in Thai, Cantonese, Mandarin, English and French. We were early one day and the owners had a great time chatting with us. Pricing and portion was decent as it was in a very touristy place. One can’t expect prices to be cheap given the location. We would certainly return the next...
