Oh.My.Goodness. My Wife and I left our home in Reading, U.K. at 3.30am on Saturday to travel to Strasbourg for one night before travelling on to Germany on Sunday. Little did we know we were going to have a date with gastronomic destiny! We hadn't booked anywhere, saw Honesty, asked if there was a free table, miraculously there was and we went on to enjoy one of the best meals we have ever had! The menu is reassuringly short, but every single item was an explosion of amazingly put together tastes and flavours. From the spinach based amuse bouche, through the incredible chorizo starter and on to some amazing fish choices for mains. Simple food, beautifully cooked with love - all incredible. And for dessert? Well, after the incredible pre-dessert (cherries wrapped in a dark mousse) I had poached peach, with a superb peach sorbet, some beautiful thin shortbread and all on a white mousse- amazing! It was an incredible experience and the whole thing is brought to you by 2, yes 2, people! One in the kitchen, One serving. That's it! French cooking at its very, very best. The wine list is fabulous too. We had a superb Chablis, so,so good - you could just put a straw in the bottle and get going. It's not cheap food - very roughly 3 courses will be 50 euros, our wine was also around 50 euros though there is cheaper. But is it value for money? Unquestionably! You have to go! Book now!! You wont be...
Read moreIt was supposed to be the highlight of our trip to Strasbourg but we were seated in the restaurant’s “Syberia” - right between the stairs and the kitchen entrance. We felt like we were sitting in the middle of a highway and when we asked whether we could sit anywhere else, we were told that there were no empty tables. Except the fact that there were 3 empty tables opposite ours the whole evening… It felt as if they don’t appreciate tourists…
The food was very good. I cannot say anything against that. But my advice for the owners is that maybe it would be better if there was one more waiter/ess to take care of the guests. Except for the beginning of our dinner we weren’t asked once if we would like to drink something. So it was just one glass of beer for my husband and one small bottle of water for me for the whole evening. Because the waiteress was in a super rush the whole time we didn’t feel comfortable bothering her or stopping her during her work. Also (and because of that) the service was way too long. Almost 2 and half hours which is too long especially if you don’t have anything to drink.
Don’t get me wrong, the food was very good, the waitress was very nice but there is a lot of room for...
Read moreNice things must be said here with a bit of suggestion for improvement. The staff is just amazing. I mean this is really important and not that typical in France to be that well looked after. Like we had a small starter - everyone does regardless of your order - which was an amazing green peas soup. I have loved that!! Then u have a little also amazing bun with butter. The weakest point for me was the main: pork ibérique and also the friend of mine had salmon. I know that here rare meat is commonly used but not everyone likes that. I think its better to ask coz that could leave a bit of dissatisfaction. Regarding the pork: basically so side was not enough. I mean the pork was juicy and with the really small amount of side it gave a heavy feeling so more cheakpeas rolls would be really really required. I had the chocolate dessert which was really nice, a bit of salty biscuit could improve more. Overall the experience was really really nice, its really worth a try. The whole atmosphere is nice, elegant, even the way how they r serving the food is...
