Le Douanier — Restaurant in Strasbourg

It’s okay. The bartenders are competent, but the place is cursed by a screen that plays an overproduced ad for itself on a loop (which showcases the issue I have with Le Douanier).

The ad starts with a man pensively scribbling into a notebook. Struck by his genius, he takes to the bar to prepare some “signature cocktails”, most of which appear to be existing cocktails but with clever names and a flaming slice of pineapple. Maybe it’s in a bowl. Or a box with smoke. Or a cage.

The ad continues with bartenders spitting fire onto a drink (please don’t do this) and other irritating things that have nothing to do with making a good cocktail.

Again, the bartenders are very capable of making a very nice drink for you. Just get a spot away from that stupid screen and ignore that...

We found a free table early on NYE. Other free tables were clearly marked as reserved, ours was not. Yet before having finished our first drink, a member of staff started cleaning our table, without making eye contact telling us that the table was reserved and we had to go. I understand NYE is a busy night, and mistakes can happen but there are nicer ways to go about this situation. We were effectively kicked out, drink unfinished, no other seat available. A sincere apology would have sufficed. The other staff members had been polite, before...

Cozy little bar with beautiful interior!! We discovered it while exploring Strasbourg, so we were lucky to get a table just walking in. The cocktails were simply amazing! I actually still wish I could find one like the L&Belle again! However they’re not just super creative with their cocktail design, they also use ingredients that go far beyond any regular cocktail bar’s supply.
