🪓 Dinner at La Hache – Bistrot Strasbourgeois
Tucked into a cozy corner of Strasbourg, La Hache offers French bistro comfort with a bold Alsatian personality. The ambiance blends teal-panelled walls, vintage butcher tools, and warm lighting — setting the tone for a meal that’s both relaxed and refined.
🥩 What We Ordered: • Onglet de bœuf au beurre aux herbes (€25.00) A beautifully seared hanger steak, juicy and full of character. The herb butter melted slowly over the meat, enriching each bite without overpowering it. • Poitrine de cochon (€18.50) Crispy on the outside, meltingly tender inside — the pork belly was deeply satisfying. Served with crisp croquettes and a glossy reduction that tied it all together. • Os à moelle gratiné à la fleur de sel (€10.50) Bone marrow done right. Roasted until golden with a touch of fleur de sel, paired perfectly with slices of warm baguette. • Orange Wine from Alsace – Les Encuvés (12cl) (€6.50) A fruity, light-bodied orange wine, almost like a dessert wine but not too sweet or intense. Smooth and pleasantly fragrant, it added a playful touch to the rich flavors of the meal. • Eau pétillante 75cl (€3.50) Sparkling water to cleanse the palate between each indulgent bite.

Life is good at this very moment - reeeeally good! All of a sudden you feel a rumbling below your rip cages. Torn out of your dreamy thought, you realise you haven't eaten for hours. In a desperate attempt to soothen that piercing pain in your stomach, your feet guide you to the nearest restaurant and with your eyes filled with despair and agony, you ask the waiter if the kitchen is still open. Numb and empty, your eyes stick to the waiters lips, moving hastily, deciphering the wordless mumbling. NO! Unconciously and with their very last spark of hope, your eyes follow a swift movement of the waitors arm. It is pointing towards an infinite alleyway, plastered with cobblestone. In the vast distance you hear a faint whisper saying the words "La Hache"... There. That must be it. A sudden rush of energy is sucking you back into your body. Your feet dig themselves into the ground, prepared to drain the very last drop of life in your body in order to arrive at that sacred place called "La Hache". In a swift and continuous movement your body locked in on his target location. Your mind is but a mere passenger. Guts and flesh have taken control. Step after step your feet carry the fleshy chariot, winding it expertly through the neverending stream of human bodies, swarming the slippery cobblestone streets. Your eyes racing, looking for the place of new hope, your brain twitching, steering the fleet feet with precision....

Ravioli with shrimp filling was good in balance and presentation was really nice. This I recommend. The seared pork belly with a potato strip(?) looked really sad and the taste was ok. But is not worth anything special. The beef had almost no taste, no blood and the onions and jus redux were just thrown on top and extremely overwhelming in taste. The amount of salt was extreme. I could not finish the steak because of a tendon (which chef does not remove it?). It was a chuck tender/jewish cut, which needs preparation before cooking. Also the fries were a bit dry, but ok. However, also way too salt. I am really confused about the reviews being so good. I am afraid people confuse salt and butter with good and balanced taste.
The entree/starter was good enough I forgot to complain apparently.
The wines served with the food would also be subpar to my opinion, but this is too subjective since french wines are not my preferred choice.
The inside was very hot and humid and is not nice if you can not handle really hot situations. But was ok to handle, although some oxygen would be nice. Service was very good, kind and in english as well, so very good. It was necessary to give your complete menu at once, which I don't prefer but I can understand in busy situations. They did not ask us if we would like our next course and just served it (but was since we had limited time). The cocktails tasted really good, unique and had good value for their price.
So go for some snacks, entrees and...
