Visited in July 2025. Georgia 🇬🇪 Tbilisi.

Khinkali Bar 1 caught our eye with its abundance of reviews and solid rating—after all, where better to try khinkali if not here? The space feels authentically Georgian, with massive wooden tables and exposed brick walls, though it shows signs of wear and could use a refresh to match its charm.

FOOD:

The menu sticks to traditional Georgian fare, and we focused on various khinkali alongside a simple salad. The boiled versions with beef and pork filling could be ordered individually, featuring a smooth, well-made dough, but they fell short on depth—the broth and flavors lacked intensity, leaving us wishing for a bolder filling since they’re meant to shine without sauce. The fried chicken khinkali (a portion of five) were a highlight, genuinely enjoyable with a creamy, balanced sauce, thin and smooth dough, and ample filling that hit the spot. We also tried the fried take on the standard boiled ones (five per serving), deep-fried for a crispy exterior that, along with an extra sauce, improved the overall balance and made them more appealing than their boiled counterparts. To accompany, we had a cucumber, tomato, and local herb salad, but even in summer, the vegetables felt a step below the taste, vibrant ones we’d hoped for.

SERVICE:

The service was prompt and efficient, which we appreciated, though it lacked that extra layer of warmth one might expect. Our waiter brought a bit of amusement with his lively, sharp-witted demeanor, keeping things light without overdoing it.

VERDICT:

Khinkali Bar 1 doesn’t need much promotion—if you’re craving khinkali, it’s a straightforward choice with decent flavors and an authentic vibe. While not everything dazzles, it delivers reliably enough for a casual visit, especially in a city brimming...

Venturing into Tbilisi's Khinkali Bar N1 felt like stumbling upon a gastronomic treasure trove. This place radiates the kind of authenticity that every seasoned traveler craves, and let me tell you, the flavors are nothing short of a revelation.

The khinkali, dear friends, are a dance of flavors. Succulent parcels of joy that make you question every dumpling you've ever had. The chefs here are culinary poets, weaving a narrative of Georgia's rich food culture with each perfectly pleated dumpling.

The atmosphere? Unpretentious, genuine, and pulsating with the heartbeat of Tbilisi. It's the kind of joint where locals gather, sharing stories and laughter over plates of food that transcend language barriers.

And the staff—more than just servers—they're storytellers, eager to guide you through the culinary tapestry of Georgia. A meal here is not just sustenance; it's an immersion into a world where food is an expression of culture.

In the spirit of Bourdain, Khinkali Bar N1 isn't just a restaurant; it's an invitation to savor the essence of Tbilisi. So, fellow wanderers, if you're in pursuit of genuine flavors and a taste of the soul of Georgia, this is your haven. Raise a glass and salute to Khinkali Bar N1 – where every bite is a chapter in a...

First of all, I want to thank Mary! She’s the best thing that ever happened to this restaurant – and honestly, probably the best host we’ve met anywhere in Georgia. Exceptional service is rare here, and she set a whole new standard. I really hope the owner reads this, because Mary is a true asset.

Our experience was fantastic. The food was outstanding – flavorful, perfectly prepared, and with plenty of variety. We especially appreciated the non-pork beef khinkali, which was important for us as Israelis who don’t eat pork or mix meat and dairy. Everything came out quickly, tasted amazing, and was very reasonably priced.

Mary made the difference, but the entire team of waiters was also great. We came with kids, and Mary took the time to explain every dish we asked about, patiently guided us through the menu, and made sure we were comfortable the entire time. Her kindness, professionalism, and cultural understanding turned a simple meal into something really memorable.

The restaurant itself is cozy and welcoming, but Mary’s service is what made it truly special.

To the owner or manager: you should know you have gold in your hands with Mary. She’s the reason we’ll come back – along with the great food.

Highly...
