Two of the three items I ordered were top-notch: jaeyuk bokkeum and donkatsu. Actually, I really appreciated that the waitress was able to confirm that j.b. is on the menu, although, on the menu, it is designated as stir-fried pork. Mercifully of pork rather than chicken, donkatsu served in this restaurant consisted of two layers (good value for money) and the pork was delicious; strange, however, it was garnished with Thai sweet chili sauce rather than the usually tangy sauce for tonkatsu served at Japanese restaurants. I also ordered spicy beef soup but I found that it was not spicy enough and reminded me a little of borsch, of which, profuse apologies to my Ukrainian and Russian chums, I am not enamored. I did relish the small platters of kimchi, eggplant and courgette served as appetizers; indeed, I availed of a second round of each. Regrettably, I did not get to savour the seaweed hors d'oeuvres as my dinner companion, a French cross-country cyclist hailing from Martinique, scarfed them all down his greedy gullet! He apparently relished them along with gimbap and glass noodles he ordered. (I ate two of his gimbap - tasty but not something I would order myself. Glass noodles I refrain from eating so I cannot comment on them. (I did not order bulgogi as the dish was designated on the menu as "bulgogi and vegetable" - I feared that the dish would come with more veggies than meat as when I ordered bulgogi in Seoul restaurant in Saburtalo, where I was served a miniscule meat portion with mostly veggies, in summer 2022. That culinary travesty still burns in my memory.) Apologies for not taking photos of the food. Next time I go, I shall and will subsequently upload them. I would ignore the negative reviews of this venue. I have eaten authentic Korean food and the food served here is spot on; my errant cyclist dinner companion, who actually lived in Korea before he cycled across Europe and Asia Minor, agrees. Visited a second time with two guests. Even tried the seaweed appetizer but I liked the kimchi better. My junior colleague ordered kimchi soup; however, that was not good. This time the donkatsu was served with the correct tangy sauce. Yummy. Jaeyuk bokkeum was again delicious. Highly recommended....
Read moreIt was an okay experience. After four consecutive days of Georgian cuisine, I was craving Korean food, and the online reviews seemed promising enough to give this place a try. I visited around 8:30 PM on a Wednesday—and found the restaurant completely empty.
I ordered nine dishes to make up for the past few days without Korean food. Out of the nine, I enjoyed only two: the cold kimchi noodles and the grilled pork belly. The rest ranged from average to disappointing, with some dishes carrying a burnt chili flavor. Two bowls of plain rice were served—one of which was noticeably dried out.
I was seated near the service counter, and the overall atmosphere left much to be desired. While I dined, two staff members chatted loudly without regard for the dining space. At one point, when one of them stepped away, the other started singing along with the background music. I didn’t realize it was karaoke night on a...
Read moreWe came twice in a week. The first visit was really good, which made us want to return.
The waitress this time was different from the one we had on our first visit. I ordered the Savoy ox bone soup (사골설렁탕), but what I was served looked different from the picture on the menu. When I asked, the waitress replied word for word, “it is exactly the same.” I said, “if you say so,” in most Korean restaurants abroad I’d expect a manager to step in if a customer feels something is wrong. No one came over to check if everything was all right at all.
I’ve attached a photo so you can judge if it looks the exactly the same as the menu.
I’m giving 2 stars to recognise the good food, service and atmosphere on our first visit, and also the fried chicken, which was excellent, crispy and better than hot wings. I’ve attached a photo so others can judge if it looks the same...
