I hesitated to try this restaurant because of all the one-star reviews and the five-star reviews not having any content (the latter an indicator of inauthenticity reflective of venue review solicitation to boost ratings). However. last night I wanted a late meal (1015pm) and this venue serves to at least 1030pm, which is a great advantage. Ordered: barley soup (soup jo), mirza qassimi and baghelo polo ba-mahiche, which had great tasting green dill rice, my favourite. Taste of the soup and the mirza was decent but not exceptional; baghelo polo was good but serving size of the rice, which was very tasty, was too small. Just look at the photo; the plate looks a bit empty. In the photo, the lamb looks a bit anemic but it tasted better than it looked. However, the portion size of the meat was not overly generous. Bread served with the mirza was strange; it seemed to be steamed and had a sort of rubbery texture somewhat like Ethiopian bread injera; it certainly did not taste bad but it was not freshly baked. Bread served with the mirza was insufficient in terms of quantity; ordering a second helping incurred a charge. Washed down with a sparkling mineral water served in a 200ml bottle; that seems exorbitant for the net price above five lari for such a tiny bottle. The venue itself is located on the third floor of a hotel; exit the elevator go straight and then make a right to pass through an open balcony to enter the restaurant. The restaurant has a feel of a bygone era; the interior and it's furnishings are very dated. However, chairs are comfortable to sit even if the venue is slightly smoky from Shisha, which I do not mind (although I am a non-smoker). Music blared from a nearby venue; this factor detracted from my enjoyment of the venue (though not markedly). When I entered, I found the venue crowded yet I was speedily served; I found one waitress to be especially kind. Overall, not the best Iranian food on in international level, but, in Tbilisi, it is probably the best Iranian venue and, at least, it is possible to get baghelo polo ba-mahiche at Shandiz, which I cannot get, for example, at the Iranian restaurant "Seven," (where it appears on the menu but is never available). Another venue, in contrast to Shandiz, Mr. Kebab does not even serve dill rice. While Shandiz's menu is extensive, there is no fesanjoon and there are no desserts like pastani zaafrani and falooda. Nor do I recall seeing soup aash or, for that matter, khoresht badinjan with lamb. Anyway, I recommend this venue subject to the above...
