I had a very disappointing experience at The Barn today. While I sometimes visit due to its convenient location, I've never been a fan of their coffee, which tends to be quite acidic for my taste.
Today, however, was particularly unpleasant due to the extremely rude behavior of the staff. When I placed my order in English, the barista responded in German. Not knowing German, I politely asked him to repeat what he said. He rudely replied, “No, I’m just repeating your order” in a condescending tone.
When it came to the tipping option, I chose not to tip due to his attitude. This seemed to irritate him further. I ordered an Americano, and he filled the cup halfway with hot water. When I asked for less water, he pretended not to understand and responded rudely again. He then aggressively poured out some water and slammed the cup on the counter, sarcastically asking, “Is this enough? Because this is not how we do it here.”
The whole interaction was unpleasant and unprofessional. I ended up leaving without my coffee. Such behavior is unacceptable, and I hope The Barn addresses this issue to improve their...
Read moreThe absolute worst service I've had in Berlin in years of visiting. I've been to this branch loads of times before and never had any issues. Very obnoxious barista (even for Berlins standards) who decided he would just stand looking at a phone screen without even acknowledging I was stood in front of him. He then performed some kind of soundless, gesturing communication, where I was guessing he was pointing me to a card machine, after he took my order. I then had another barista present a cup of coffee on the bar a without even looking at me, so I had to ask if it was mine. The response she gave was like 'yeah what ever'...A real shame because there are plenty of options in this city for coffee and I just think that this brand is perhaps now too big and employing people who shouldn't be anywhere near customer service positions. Happy for management to correct me though by...
Read moreThe Barn is a renowned coffee chain in Berlin, but their shop at Hackescher Market was the one and only disappointment we encountered in our short 3-day trip.
My friend had a black coffee and I had a Chinese green tea. He said he could taste the beans were of good quality but were not properly handled. I had the same feeling with the tea. I do not know if they used too hot water or left the tea leaves brewing for too long, but the result was that the tea tasted quite bitter. In China, people stuck in a dead-end job somewhere deep in the system tend to over-brew green tea like this--a lingering bitterness from a pinch of tea leaves soaked in a big glass jar for a whole day; the taste of stagnation in the country's bureaucracy. Another problem with this shop is that it does not have a bathroom. Not...
