Yesterday we went to L'Osteria restaurant in Cologne. As usual, I am a regular guest and a fan of this restaurant, but something strange happened yesterday in terms of service. The food was excellent as always, but the service was very poor. We were five people, yet we were seated at a table meant for four. It’s commonly known that starters should arrive before the main courses, but it was unacceptable that the pizza and pasta were served before the salad and soup. Imagine — the soup arrived well after the main dishes. When we asked the person who took our order, she claimed it was because we ordered it after the mains, which was not true. I had told her before she left that we wanted the soup and asked her to make sure it was recorded — unfortunately, it seems she either forgot to register it or her explanation was just laughable. Once the dishes were brought out, there was no room on the table to place them. When we asked to join an empty table next to us, the host refused, saying it wasn't allowed — yet the table remained empty until we left, and so did many others. When we asked for soup spoons, we were met with sighs and complaints. We had to ask another staff member, who eventually brought them. One of the pizzas was sliced, while the other was not — which was inconsistent. The whole service experience was strange and disappointing. I’ve visited this restaurant in several cities across Germany and it has always been one of my favorites — and my family’s as well — but what happened this time was truly unexpected. I hope the quality of service will be improved. Thank you.

The portions are huge, the pizzas were really good. The only downside is the queue to secure a table, noting that we couldn't book in advance.

L'Osteria is normally one of my favourite places for Italian food. But this one won't be on my list of best Italian places to eat at. The food wasn't good, the Lasagne my mom had was quite burned, and also tasted like it. She felt there was more cheese than meat, in fact, very little meat in it. She couldn't finish it all even tho she was very hungry. It wasn't good. My Spaghetti Bolognese didn't taste like what I ordered. The meat felt even less tasty than Tofu pretending to be beef. It felt more like a cheap quality jar of Bolognese from the supermarket. The only good thing about it was the spaghetti, was really perfectly done! The service isn't good either, except for one person! The girl who apparently was the only one who could speak English (later found out more could but just didn't feel like it then). This girl was super friendly, smiled even through the criticisms we had about the food and service. Very professional! The restaurant itself looks really nice! Another thing I want to point out is the guy who brought our food to the table touched his itchy behind, like, a little more than he should in front of us (customers). Unacceptable! I do not recommend this place for 'genuine' Italian food. But a quick snack and drink might be doable.
