2025.05.14: came by on a Wednesday, when they always have steak as lunch menu. Waited a few miuntes to get a table, then we got served, fast, efficient, nothing too fancy, rathr cold service, which I think is completely fine during these busy lunch hours. Had the salad and the steak. Was about to pay and the waiter said the price, I said I wanted to pay with card. He repeated the price, very obviously waiting for me to say a higher amount than the actual price. Which I could understand, if the service was any slightly better than what is the bare minimum. I mean, yes, they brought the food to our table and the steak was good. But that's it. Noone was especially nice to us or did anything that would make me want to pay extra on top of the base price. If they expect me to pay extra I also expect them to do something extra. Rather than making me feel uncomfortable for not wanting to tip. I guess it works for most people, I also felt pressured, but I don't like this approach. The place is still good, little too loud because of thw acoustics of the inner space, so...

My preferred location when going to Block House!

Block House is a good restaurant to have some steaks and not paying exorbitant amounts of money! What I liked about this location is the mix of modern restaurant with the typical Block House vibes.

Last time I had the beef carpaccio as a starter and it was delicious! I can really recommend it with some garlic bread. My friend had the beef tartar and it was also very good! For the main course I had a Rib Eye Mastercut. You’ll be pretty full after it. It was very juicy and medium rare was respected. Of course you won’t have the signature of a premium chef but the taste of it is really good! I had it with the baked potato but I must say last time was pretty disappointing. The potato was not entirely well cooked, so it was a bit hard to chew. As a dessert, we had the lava cake with ice cream. I can recommend it if you like sweet stuff.

Service is fast and friendly. They also help you with your extra wishes.

Toilets are also very clean!

Sonntag (23.03.) früher Abend - wir hatten Lust auf Steak. Das Block House schräg gegenüber der Staatsoper. Leider war das "Essenserlebniss" nicht so toll. Bestellt - eine Ofenkartoffel und Rumpsteak. Als grosser Steakfreund und guter Essen wollte ich mir ein zweites Rumpsteak ohne Beilage zusätzlich gönnen. Dem Wunsch wurde gerne entsprochen - dem Garpunkt "Medium" eher nicht so. Da viel Betrieb war, habe ich es zähneknirrschend hingenommen, da ich auch mit meiner Begleitung zusammen essen wollte. Die Rechnung über 75 Euro wurden dann von mir ohne genaues hinsehen bezahlt - grosser Fehler, den ich aber erst am nächsten Abend bemerke! Im Regelfall betrete ich solch Lokalitäten erstmal nicht so schnell wieder. Aber meine Begleitung war am Montag (24.03.26) abend sehr überzeugend, sodass ich mich mehr oder weniger widerwillig ein zweites Mal ins Block Haus setzte. Der Gedanke war "ok gib mal eine zweite Chance". Aber auch diesmal war man anscheinend nicht gewillt meinem Wunsch nach Garpunkt "Medium", allerdings diesmal bei den Filet-Medallions, nachzukommen. Es war wie am Vorabend "tot" gebraten und diesmal war ich echt sauer. Ich habe die Bedienung darauf hingewiesen und gebeten das Essen zu entfernen, ich auch keinen Wert auf Ersatz legen würde und auch nicht bereit sei, es zu bezahlen. Und hier resultiert der 1 Stern für den Service. Die Bedienung war trotz meiner Verärgerung sehr freundlich, mehrfach entschuldigend und sehr überzeugend ein neues Essen bringen zu dürfen. Diesmal schaffte der Koch doch tatsächlich das Medium - wow Respekt. Zurück im Hotel stutzte ich dann doch nochmal über die Preise. 75 Euro am ersten Abend und am Zweiten nur 47 Euro. Erst da fiel mir auf, das da was nicht passt. Ja ich hatte am ersten Abend ein zweites Rumpsteak, das sollte aber nicht 28 Euro extra kosten. Erst hier sahen wir, das man uns am ersten Abend 3 Positionen gebucht hatten, die wir aber garnicht verköstigt haben. Es tauchten 2 doppelte Espresso und 1x Eis & Heiss auf. Mehrpreis 14 Euro! Selbst schuld - ja definitv. Ich hätte ja genauer hinschauen können. Aber ärgerlich trotzdem, weil ich 2 Abende nicht das gewünschte Essen bekommen habe und im nachhinein auch noch "betrogen" wurde. Insofern fällt meine Bewertung eher negativ aus.

Abgesehen davon finde ich das Ambiente und den Wohlfühlfaktor auch eher nicht so toll. Durch teilweise enges Mobiliar und keinerlei Abtrenunngen, sehr laut und wenig gemütlich.......

Edit 02.04.2025 Nach Email Kontakt und sehr nettem Telefonat fanden wir heute die zuviel gebuchten/bezahlten 14€ aus der ersten Rechnung wieder auf unserem Konto. Ein sehr anständiger Move vom Block House - sie müssten das nicht tun. Dafür herzlichen Dank. Auch wurden wir mit einem Gutschein eingeladen ein BlockHouse Restaurant in der Nähe zu besuchen.

Ich habe schon andere Reaktionen auf nicht so gut Bewertungen erlebt. Dies Verhalten hier ist echt klasse und verdient 5 Sterne für nachträglichen Service und...
