This cafe was recommended by my tour guide in Germany for its “incomparable” cakes, so I wanted to check it out. It certainly lived up to the talk; the food was just amazing. The prices may look a little steep for a cafe like this, but the quality makes it more than worth it. I had a Spinattörtchen which was easily the best spinach quiche-like thing I’ve ever eaten - besides lots of spinach, it was filled with soft Emmentaler cheese which gave it such a distinct flavour and unique gooey texture. The side salad it came with was also very good: fresh vegetables in a creamy dressing. I can’t remember exactly what the cake I got was called. It had layers of cream and pastry with berry jam, topped with a streusel crust. Although this isn’t the sort of flavour I usually go for, I liked the look of the different layers. It was difficult to eat with a fork because the pastry was a lot sturdier than the cream, but the quality of the pastry and even the purity of the simple whipped cream was really excellent. I don’t think I’ve ever had a streusel that I liked this much. The dine-in experience was a little confusing to me, since you order the cake at the counter in front, but for everything else it’s a regular table service model, with a waiter that comes to take food and drink orders and brings the bill. But I am Canadian visiting Germany for the first time so I cannot reasonably expect to understand the service models here. We had to wait a while to pay after we were finished eating because our waitress got very busy, but otherwise the service was good - it wasn’t too much of a wait for my tart and drink to be brought out, and the waitress was really nice. We were sitting outside when it suddenly started pouring, and she was ready to make a space for us inside. I wish I had more chances to visit so that I could try more cakes because they all...

I can’t believe there are no reviews of this amazing cafe/cakeshop on Google. No one cakes is too many here.

Ambience here is fantastic, indoor and out door seatings for whichever kinds of dining u prefer. I seemed to be the only Asian in the whole cafe, but they do not discriminate. Service staffs are friendly and understand English. The Extreme wide selection of cakes is what you have to try here!

Black Forest cake = super fresh berries and cream, base of the cake is a biscuity crunchy sweet base that compliments the slight sourness of the berries.

Dom special cake = recommended by the waitress, a special recipe cake by the cafe. Pistachio mousse, rum and biscuit base makes it amazing to go with tea or coffee.

Beverages here are just normal, but the cakes are just amazing. So far the best cakes I’ve tried in the...

This could be the best café in Mainz, catering to both locals and tourists. Over 100 years of tradition, great location with a terrace overlooking the main square. Unfortunately, it closes at 6 pm. Every day. Except for Sunday, of course, because on Sundays, it's closed altogether. Sunny weather, warm evening? Crowds of people looking for a charming place to sit? The Sunday tradition of café breakfast or afternoon coffee&cake? "We don't care, go elsewhere."

And the historic interior? Some ten years ago, they threw away the mid century furniture and overfilled the rooms with something new, boring, seemingly more stylish. They basically destroyed a valuable document of...

The best cake in the world is in Germany. And at least out of the places I’ve been in Germany, Dom-Café has the best cake in Germany. We’ve been here three times and each time we come to Mainz we always plan to come here. The seasonal cake selection is excellent and each time the cake we have tried has been really wonderful. The coffee is good and the staff are friendly and responsive. This place is always busy!
