The environment and the service is perfect. We ordered the vegan red curry with rice and the miso spicy noodle. The noodle has some room of improvement. Soup: There is only spicy flavor. feels like lack of salt. The miso taste is also not strong enough. Noodles: no soup flavor, the texture is not chewy enough. If it is made by hand, maybe the problem is the kneading process. The chicken is not from a good part of the checken, much skin and so on. Just personal opinion as I don’t like skin. But it is just one noodle so maybe other noodles taste better.

I love going here because they literally have an Asian Dish for anybody. You have a huge range of dishes and the best part is that you can mix and match the toppings. All is the vegan meals are marked and every category has a vegan option: ramen, noodles, bowls, curry and starters. I always get a vegan dish with tempe as a topping but they have tofu and even beyond meat vegan toppings. For meat eaters they have beef or chicken toppings or seafood. Another great option is that you can order an extra side of rice or noodles- endless options 🤩

Found this centrally located Japanese restaurant after searching around quite a bit for an asian place open on the holiday. The positives: big portions (too big for me, tbh), good ambience, location and decently fast service The negatives: the ramen was a bit too "soupy" for my liking; didn't have enough fresh veggies and the meat was meh. Still worth considering if you're in the neighborhood.

I never write reviews. Ever. I don’t even believe in them half the time. But here I am, creating an unnecessary Google account as an Apple fangirl just so I can write this one. If that doesn’t tell you how impressed and grateful I am, I don’t know what will.

Let me explain. I have Celiac disease – the real deal. It’s made dining out extremely complicated. Here's what happened: On my last visit here, I was recommended the Edamame, “just steamed, no gluten.” Sounds safe, right? Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. Whether I explicitly said Celiac, I honestly can’t remember – so I won’t throw shade on the Mainz team. But I ended up in the hospital. Yup.

Fast forward to two days ago. My friends – regulars at MoschMosch Mainz – wanted to go back, and invited me along. I was hesitant. VERY hesitant. But the staff had always been nice, and I wasn’t 100% sure the Edamame incident was their fault. So I went. Just for drinks.

And that’s where this review begins. We sat on the terrace, and our server immediately stood out. Super warm, professional, and genuinely gave off “host with heart” energy. In case the receipt was correct, his name was "Gurgen". Sorry, if not, but my friend told me that's where the servers' names go. He came by, took our orders, and when I said I wasn’t eating, he didn’t bat an eye. Even kindly offered to bring me a small plate in case I wanted to nibble off my friends’ food. I politely declined.

After some time, when bringing my second drink, he asked – gently and respectfully – if he could ask me a personal question. I was surprised but said yes. He asked if there was a specific reason I didn’t eat at MoschMosch, and made it clear he wasn’t asking to pressure me, but to understand if something had gone wrong, so they could learn from it. Turns out my hungry glances at my friends’ meals weren’t as subtle as I thought. 😅

So I told him. About my Celiac. The hospital visit. The Edamame. And again, I stressed that I wasn’t sure if I’d actually told the staff about my Celiac back then.

He immediately understood what had happened. He thanked me for being open, and said the Edamame likely was contaminated with gluten – not because of the beans, but because of how they were prepared.

At this point, he asked if it was okay for him to quickly step inside and delegate a few things so he could come back and take the time to explain properly. He didn't want his team to get stressed because of his tables, but wanted to give me and my Celiac the proper attention. Wow.

When he returned, he gave me a crash course in their kitchen setup – Ramen stations with boiling baskets (think deep fryers but with water), Woks, fryers, grills – all of which pose cross-contamination risks. Because of their small kitchen and high demand, all stations are constantly in use, and even something like Edamame might end up being gluten-contaminated.

He explained the general challenges of Japanese cuisine for Celiac patients – not just noodles, but also gyoza, spring rolls, Japanese breading, etc. He said straight up: MoschMosch isn’t ideal for Celiac. Gluten-free for other reasons? Sure. But not Celiac. And he didn’t sugarcoat it. He was honest and clear, and I really appreciated that.

What meant the most? He didn’t ask if I told the previous staff I had Celiac. He took responsibility either way.

So no, I can’t go back to eat. But yes – I will absolutely recommend MoschMosch. I’ll happily go along for drinks with friends or colleagues. And now, I’ll do it knowing they have someone on staff who really, truly cares.

Fun Fact #1: He was serving the entire terrace and treated every guest like us. Like a total pro and like the best host ever.

Fun Fact #2: I tried to tip him generously (I only had drinks but wanted to show my appreciation and offered €10 as his tip). He kindly declined. Said it didn’t feel right to accept a tip for something that, in this case and in his eyes, was simply necessary – a matter of principle. I’ve never had a server refuse a tip because of his...

As a fan of the British chain Wagamama, I was pleasantly surprised to discover MoschMosch, a German version of the same theme. The menu is largely different variations on noodle plates, some with fired noodles, others with ramen, with different types of meat and broth. I chose one with pork belly and it was fantastic. It helped that I was freezing after a long damp winter walk and the broth was nice and spicy, not super spicy, but probably about as much as you could find at a restaurant in Germany. It was nice and warming. The available sauces on the table, including the chili sauce were a nice addition as I like spicy stuff. The pork belly was fantastic. Nice and tender and went really well with the broth which was the standout. The noodels and veggies were fine, nothing to get excited about, but not in any way bad as some other reviewers noted.

I also ordered their homemade ice tea as the only beer they had was in bottles (not in Germany, thank you), and was quite surprised how good it was and how well it paired with my ramen.

Service was very good. We ordered quickly and food came fast. They had english menus available and spoke good english, good for one of our traveling companions. They were also very friendly and helpful with some questions we had...
