We went in here on Sunday(21st Aug) had a glass of wine in lovely surroundings...so good we booked a table for Tues(23rd) for dinner at 8pm...turned up at 8pm on the Tues and it was busy...the male waiter then looked panicked when we said we had a table booked...he saw our name in the book but then advised that he had put a reservation ticket on our table but he couldn't remember which table (?) and someone had taken it!!! Never heard that in my life and I have worked in restaurants...he said we could wait 10 - 20mins to see if a table came available...we shouldn't have had to do that but he was very apologetic...we said leave it tonight and rebooked for Thursday 8pm...turned up on Thursday 8pm....everything great table outside...wines ordered and the manageress took our food order....1 hour later (and we had seen tables after us getting their orders) we were still waiting. We asked the waitress and she advised the order had gone missing....meanwhile the manageress was in her car about to drive away....we told the waitress to get her back....the manageress did come back and very confrontational...(they even had the cheek to ask us why we were being so upset..this was the 2nd mistake in 3 days...what did they expect!).....We gave the manageress the order but it was unclear whether she had made the mistake or the kitchen (but she said mistakes happen...twice in 3 days...not good) but she did not take any ownership of the issue which you expect from a manageress. It all ended very unacceptably....we decided to leave and said in compensation we would take the 2 wines we had on the house and this was agreed.....we do not recommend going here and if you do book...good luck with that....much better places to eat in Mainz (we only went as our hotel recommended it but they have been informed of our...
Read moreWe had an absolutely unforgettable evening at Weinstube Hottum. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed like family. The host and owner personally helped us select a fantastic wine that paired perfectly with our meal, and every recommendation was spot-on.
We tried the steak, the schnitzel, and the rump steak, and each dish was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and truly authentic. Sitting next to some of the host’s own family members made the experience even more special, adding to the warm and genuine atmosphere that you just can’t find everywhere.
The combination of incredible food, thoughtfully chosen wine, and such heartfelt hospitality made the night one to remember. Weinstube Hottum is a gem in Mainz, and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone who wants an authentic and welcoming...
Read moreWe were so lucky to get a table! We didn’t have a reservation and were offered a 1 hour time limit which was totally fine. The atmosphere is so cozy with shared tables and lit candles and beautiful decor. We ordered a Riesling dry wine which was really good and I had the Weiner schnitzel with a potato cucumber salad that was excellent! My husband had the Frankfurter schnitzel with green sauce. Both meals were very delicious! Service was great! We appreciated getting in and was one of my best schnitzels of our 1 month trip! I loved the potato cucumber salad! A great alternative to fried potatoes! Reservations would be best as it is a...
