These guys like to steal in a nice and polite way. First thing they do is,no matter what you order, they bring bread depending on how many people are having a meal, each is 1euro for example 5 people 5 euros. For example if you order suvlaki, gyros or something that comes with pita bread, or any kind of a bread, pastries etc. They will try to charge you for that bread that you have not even ordered, you didn't need it at the first place, never ordered it. Second of all, they type input the amount that you need to pay in to a machine, print that out without breaking down the costs, and then separately on greek, they provide you with the break down and something writen down that you don't even understand. When those guys bring you that bill, they politely explain that the bill is without service charge (they ask you to tip in a kind way) until you start asking questions. Guy ran away from us, because he couldn't argue in front of other guests, we caught him stealing, 2e for bread, 3 euros of something that he just added on greek without our knowledge...i wonder how many clueless tourist they cheat this way, who just pay the bill and go on their...
Read moreGo and find another place to eat. You'll be charged a lot for what isn't worth it (like.. every other 'better' restaurant we ate at in Athens had lower prices, bigger portions and a lot higher quality.). I ordered "Falafel", one of the three vegetarian options, à 9€ and got a surprisingly small plate with some cold falafel, 7 french fries (of varying quality), a small pita bread cut into 4 pieces, slices of a tomato, small pieces of an onion and a tablespoon of sauce. Despite the lack of taste, it was eatable but barely enough given the small portion size. In most other restaurants in Athens, we got free water to drink but in this one, you have to pay for that. What was especially nice of the staff was that we were given a baguette, broken in two halves, for 12 people before the actual food came. We later found out we were charged 1€ per person, totaling in 12€ for a simple (cold) baguette and some olive oil and vinegar which came in the usual glass bottles everyone had to pass around. At the end, I kind of felt like as if we were being mocked by the waiter when we were given a coupon that would 'save' us 20% in case we would...
Read moreI don't like to give a 1 star review as i feel that most restaurants have at least some positive or redeeming aspects. Plakiotissa is the exception.
My partner and I decided to have lunch here after the owner or one of the waiters grabbed us off the street and assured us this is the best restaurant in Athens. As soon as we sat down we noticed that the wait staff seemed incredibly disinterested with the customers, were very rushed and had an overall attitude of "i cant be bothered". I can fully understand that it must be incredibly tiresome, tedious and stressful dealing with hordes of tourists from the cruise ships. However, being rude to customers who have gone out of their way to be polite is no way to act.
The attitude of the wait staff asside, the food was abysmal. We both ordered souvlakis. The meat was straight from a kebab rotisserie. Definitely not something id expect to see served in a greek restaurant. Id expect this from a roadside turkish kebab stand.
In closing, dont waste your time here. The staff are rude, and give the bare minimum of service, yet still expect a tip. And the food is...
