The service was horrible. We were 3 people and two of them are vegetarians. We ordered pastitsio (for meat eater) and risotto with trums and vegetarian mousaka (both dishes for vegetarians). Another waitress, not the one who took the order, bringed the dishes for us. Vegetarian mousaka and pastitsio looked the same at the first view. The waitress told ,,vegetarian mousaka” and one of the vegetarians (me) took it. I ate a few bites of it and I realised that it is with meat. Then I politely asked waitress if she is sure that it is vegetarian. She said: ,,yes, it’s soya meat”. Then I showed my mom’s dish, which was surely without meat, and asked what dish is it there then. She angrily told us that it should be opposite. Okay, we changed the plates, ate our dishes. I didn’t make any problems for them. Just when the waitress who took our order came back to us, I asked for check and asked for discount because of this situation. He said ,,okay, sure”, but then in the payment card machine wrote the whole amount. I told him that it is without discount. He said we can’t make a discount and starter to scream on me, that I told it only when I ate a whole plate of dish. He threatened me to bring the police and etc. Only when one more of the staff girls asked me the situation once again, I got a discount. It was really shameless. I even didn’t get an apology. So, if you are vegetarian, surely don’t choose this...

We were in Athens for 5 nights and ate here on 4 of those evenings. It was so good we kept returning.
If you want great food, excellent service and relaxed ambience at a very good price, then this is definitely the place to go. Set in a great spot just a minutes walk down from the Acropolis, Makrygianni 3 has everything you could want. The welcoming and friendly environment is due to the non pushy approach of the staff. Our waiter, Alexandros, was fantastic. Unlike a lot of the staff at other restaurants in Athens, he was not pushy or persistent in his approach when he saw us looking at the menu. He gave his recommendations and then left us to decide. This made all the difference to us as we had been ambushed outside many other restaurants. Alexandros's recommendations were SPOT ON! The Chicken Souvlaki, Moussaka (we had both the beef and vegetarian versions) and the chicken linguine were all excellent and tasty dishes. The flavours were all fantastic. The linguine was possibly the best pasta I have ever had (and we were in Italy before Greece!). He was also spot on with his wine recommendations. If you get the opportunity to eat at this modest, well priced and friendly restaurant then you won't be...
Read moreI went two days in a row and had the same dish. It was the linguine with chicken, bacon, and whiskey cream. The dish itself was actually delicious, this why I went two days in a row. In the menu it says “crispy bacon”, the first night I was super looking forward to getting some crispy bacon. It came out and immediately I could tell it wasn’t crispy at all, and more like pieces of ham. Also, if you ask for water they bring out a bottle of water and charge .50. You have to ask for tap water specifically if you want free water.
So I went back today and asked for “extra extra extra crispy bacon” and told the waitress I was there the night before and it wasn’t crispy, so I was really looking forward to crispy bacon. I was extremely specific that I wanted extra crispy bacon.
It came out the same exact way as the night before, so I let her know it wasn’t crispy at all. She brought another side that she said was crispy, but idk if they know what crispy means, it was just a little more chewy than the stuff already in my dish. They didn’t charge for the extra, so I can’t be too mad, but I will not get my hopes up to get “crispy bacon” there again.
Great view of acropolis, good service, delicious pasta, bad translation of what...
