Tylixto: The Uncontested King of Gyro in Athens Forget everything you think you know about gyro until you've experienced Tylixto. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Athens, this unassuming spot isn't just a restaurant; it's a pilgrimage for anyone seeking the quintessential Greek street food experience. And let me tell you, it delivers in spades, so much so that it's the only place I'll ever consider for a gyro when I'm in this magnificent city. From the moment you approach, you'll likely notice it: the line. It snakes out the door, a testament to the legendary status Tylixto holds among locals and savvy tourists alike. But do not be deterred. This isn't just a line; it's a prelude to perfection. Every minute spent waiting is an investment that pays off handsomely the moment you take that first, glorious bite. The anticipation only builds the craving, and trust me, it's worth every single second. What makes Tylixto's gyro so utterly transcendent? It's a symphony of flavors and textures, meticulously crafted. The pork (or chicken, if you prefer, though the pork is a must-try) is unbelievably tender and flavorful, carved fresh from the vertical spit, its edges caramelized to perfection. It’s cradled in a warm, pillowy pita, slightly charred and incredibly soft. Then comes the ensemble of fresh, crisp tomatoes, sweet onions, and a generous dollop of their signature tzatziki – a creamy, garlicky, dill-infused masterpiece that elevates every other ingredient. The fries, tucked right inside, are hot, perfectly seasoned, and provide that delightful crunch that rounds out the experience. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience. The efficiency of the staff, even amidst the bustling queue, is remarkable. They move with a focused energy, assembling each gyro with precision and a clear passion for their craft. You can taste the dedication in every bite. For me, Tylixto isn't just the best gyro in Athens; it's the benchmark. Once you've had a gyro here, all others pale in comparison. So, next time you find yourself in Athens, make a beeline for Tylixto. Join the line, embrace the wait, and prepare yourself for what will undoubtedly be the finest gyro you've ever tasted. You won't regret it – in fact, like me, you'll likely find yourself making it your exclusive gyro destination whenever you're in the...

I recently visited Tylixto Greek Wrap in Athens, Greece, and had an absolutely fantastic experience with their chicken and veggie gyro—hands down one of the best I've ever had! The moment I walked in, the vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff set the tone for a delightful meal. The veggie gyro was a masterpiece: packed with fresh, flavorful ingredients like perfectly grilled vegetables, creamy tzatziki, and a soft, warm pita that held everything together beautifully. The balance of spices was spot-on, and the portion size was generous, leaving me satisfied without feeling overly full.

The outdoor seating was a lovely bonus, offering a great view of the bustling Aiolou street while I enjoyed my meal. The fact that it’s open until 1 AM is a huge plus for late-night cravings! With a 4.6-star rating and over 3,131 reviews, it’s clear this place is a local gem, and I can see why. The service was quick, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making me feel right at home. I highly recommend trying the veggie gyro here—it’s a must-visit for anyone in the Plaka area. Can’t wait to come back and explore more...

We had our last lunch here and it was quite disappointing. The person working on the counter wasn’t friendly at all, and didn’t give us our food to go even though we ordered it that way. We got the Greek dolmas (stuffed vine leaves with rice and herbs, served with Greek yogurt) as appetiser, and we didn’t enjoy them. The sauce was a bit sour, and they were cold (not even room temperature, like straight out of the fridge). We also got two pittas, a chicken gyros (with tomato, lettuce, yogurt-mayonnaise and fries) and a traditional kebab (with tomate, onion, spicy tomato sauce, yogurt and fries). The chicken was really salty, which was a pity as the combination of ingredients was really good balanced. The kebab was better, as the meat was really flavourful and seasoned correctly, but it came with the sour-ish yogurt sauce which we didn’t love. There’s limited seating space upstairs, and a big shared table outside (often packed). It’s not a place that we would be back if we had...
