Long wait times, extremely rude waiters, order didn't arrive and another order mistaken.

(I don't usually write reviews, especially bad ones, but since others have had similar experience here I decided to share our experience.)

Can attest that a couple of the waiters were acting weird towards us as tourists. All smiles and giggles with other customers and rude with us. Not all of them mind you. The waiter who took our order was busy listening and talking to his earpiece meanwhile taking my order, he rudely asked me to repeat myself 4 times 'huh?' or 'what' after each item in my order. Clearly not listening. Same waiter was taking time to sit with his friends who were eating there chatting for ages and having drinks with them. Very unprofessional.

The wait times at each stage was very long.

The food: One of our dishes didn't arrive and another was mistaken for another dish which we were served and only realised once we got the bill. We confronted the waiter to which he argued with us. defending himself that the dish didn't arrive because the kitchen didn't have it(we weren't informed) and that it was our fault we didn't say we got the wrong order and since it was 'in the stomach' what did he want us to do suggesting we didn't want to pay instead of apologizing for not listening. Very ridiculous looking back.

The food is pretty good, a little pricey but not worth the hassle of the rest of the experience. We were given an extra dessert(which is tasty) in the end for the mistake, but this was nothing more than the restaurant covering itself. We felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome and wanted to leave there as soon as possible.

I suggest looking for a more welcoming dining experience of which there are many on the...

Went to this resturant yesterday after seeing a lot of good reviews, and I was far from impressed.. We ordered two starters, but we didn’t recieve them at the same time. It took 30 minutes before we got the second starter. We waited almost an hour before we got the main courses, but the people seated to the tables next to us got their food much faster than us despite we arriving at the restaurant long before them. There was several other tables that recieved their food long before us. The food did not live up to the expectations, I ordered a cesar salad and the chicken was super solid and very hard, felt like I was trying to bite into stones..😅 The biggest issue whatsoever was a while after we were done eating and ready to pay and go. We waited over an hour to pay, every time we tried to get in contact with the many waitresses it never succeeded. It was like they were overseeing us, and we did feel very ignored. When we finally got in contact with one of them, he never came back even though he said he would. After another attempt with another waitress he brought us the bill and never came back so we could pay, then we asked a third waitress and he also just came with the bill.. At this point we were very frustrated and not very pleased. They all said that they were coming back to the table with the terminal, but somehow they just went and did other things.. I have never felt so overseen at a restaurant before and it is sad that it went like that. People were coming and going, while we waited for what felt like an eternity to pay. So if you’re planning on going to this restaurant make sure you have...

Lovely food, absolutely dreadful service. Never again.

Visited for my partner’s birthday, and while the food was genuinely lovely, everything else about the experience was shockingly poor. From the moment we arrived, the service was chaotic and indifferent. We waited 15 minutes just to be handed menus (after asking!!!), then had to ask twice over 45 minutes just to get the bill.

To make matters worse, our bill was incorrect twice, missing items we’d actually ordered – which was ironic considering multiple things we did order never even arrived. Confusing and frustrating is an understatement.

The final straw was the attitude of what seemed to be the manager. Rude, arrogant, and completely uninterested in resolving the issue, more interested in his own ego. Rather than listening, he spoke over me louder and faster — no apology, no accountability, and no attempt to make up for the experience. Not even a small gesture off the bill despite it being a birthday dinner gone sideways. The only gesture was small free crap dessert and some shots, which 1: I said I didn’t want multiple times and 2: Are given to absolutely everyone!!!!!!

This place might serve good food, but good luck enjoying it when the staff treat you like a nuisance. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Spend your money somewhere that values both food and their customers.

Compliments to chefs and...

Thrumbi has good food – probably one of the better spots in town, especially considering the overall lack of great restaurant options nearby. That’s actually why we came here twice on two consecutive nights. But unfortunately, the service is a serious weak point and really takes away from the experience. The staff is not friendly, barely speaks any English, and you’re left waiting around 20 minutes to even be noticed. They ignore you, and there’s even a line just to get in – which might feel justified because of the food, but definitely not because of the service. What was especially frustrating is how the food is served. They ask you in which order you’d like things, but then completely disregard that and just bring dishes randomly – one by one, however the kitchen makes them. It creates an awkward situation where you’re all just sitting at the table waiting for each other’s meals to arrive. And this wasn’t just a one-time thing. The second night, we specifically said we wanted the grilled cheese first, then the salad – instead, they brought the salad, then the main dishes, and only at the end the grilled cheese. I honestly don’t understand this way of serving food. It’s a shame, because the food itself is nice – but the experience doesn’t match it, and in a country that lives off tourism, you’d expect at least basic English and a bit of effort to make guests feel welcome.

Went to Throubi for our first dinner in Chania, and everything went perfectly. We waited in line for over 30 minutes to get a table, but it was totally worth it. We had already spotted some of their classic dishes on social media and Google Maps, so we went for those. For starters, we ordered fries, tirokafteri, and grilled vegetables. The fries were just normal, but the tirokafteri was something else, super creamy, almost like butter, and full of flavour. The grilled vegetables were cooked perfectly. Then came the mains: we got a kebab and their special fried saganaki, which we also used as a main. The kebab was amazing, the meat practically melted in your mouth, and you could tell there was a mix of spices that gave it such a deep and rich taste. As for the saganaki cheese, it was fantastic. It had this super crunchy crust, probably a mix of cornflakes, sunflower seeds, and some other things. Whatever it was, it made the dish unique and really memorable. At the end, they offered us some ouzo (I think?) and a small scoop of ice cream, which was a nice touch. If you're ever in Chania, this place is definitely a must.

Grilled meat is definitely the specialty at this spot! We really enjoyed the chicken skewer and grilled vegetables but felt that based on those flavours, we could have picked better complementary meat options. The pork skewer was really dry and tough, and I couldn’t finish it. The kebab was okay but nothing memorable and finishing it felt like a chore. We wished we picked the pork steak or mix grill for 2 as we saw it was a popular option at other tables! The dessert and raki at the end was a nice touch, the chocolate choux cream puff were one of the better dessert we had compared to other restaurants we visited. The vibes in Chania were really laid back and we weren’t used to a slower paced service coming from North America so my tip for those who are impatient or have plans after is to ask for the bill early because it does take a while!
