Maria's meze — Restaurant in Municipality of Rhodes

My girlfriend and I had spent a couple of hours walking around the old town in blistering heat and needed a break. We were looking for somewhere to stop and came across this place. She ordered a milkshake and specified large, I ordered a fruit smoothie and specified medium, both drinks came large… didn’t think much of it at the time. She was peckish so ordered some pita and hummus, that came but with an extra side of pita… again didn’t think too much. Bill comes and it’s €48!!!!

I feel like a moron for falling for such an old trick but I wasn’t going to argue, I assume they’re desperate and must need it more than me. Please avoid this place and in general anywhere that doesn’t have prices listed as they will just charge what they want, bring you extra random items and sizes you didn’t ask for.

Can’t recommend this place. The waiters put pressure on clients by not giving them time to think about what they want to order. I didn’t even get to check the whole menu, because the waiter kept asking me what I want to order and wouldn’t let me think. Next, he offered some drinks. I ordered a medium glass of cola, and my boyfriend a large beer. Didn’t expect a huge, 2 litre pint. It wouldn’t be a problem, but during payment I found out it cost 16 euros. The chicken gyros was very chewy, not tasty. For the spaghetti we waited over an hour. The waiters are not interested in your opinion on the dish, won’t ask if everything is okay. Waiters scammed us into ordering one of the most expensive things on menu after asking for something else they come across as helpful and friendly but they confuse you and add extras on to your bill at expensive prices. They tried to charge €140 for 2 people that shared a starter and main and had 2 drinks each when we questioned them the waiter started shouting at us to pay it, I wish we read the reviews the place is known for scamming tourists.
