Food was delicious but our experience was definitely not pleasant.
We ordered 2 goulash soups and 1 platter to share Hungarian style. We ordered this one in particular to try the traditional sausage.
Goulash was delicious and after the waitress brought a platter. After taking a piece of pork from the top I noticed that there was no sausage and so I asked the waitress why it was missing. She brought me the menu and asked me to show her which platter I ordered. I showed her the first picture and told her that we ordered this one because we wanted the sausage. The waitress with whom we ordered our food came to check and she asked if this platter was good and we told her that we still wanted the sausage. She left and left the platter there. We didn't touch the food and when I saw her again she said that the sausage was coming in 3 minutes and so we started to eat the platter infront of us. Waitress brought the sausage on a separate plate.
Food was good I can't complain about that.
After the food, a man which I presume was the manager or owner came to our table and offered a coffee for the mistake. We took a capuccino and espresso and after asked for the bill.
When he brought the bill I noticed that we were charged an extra ft. 5700. Bill was in Hungarian and so I asked what was this charge and he told me for the extra sausage. He said that its because we still ate everything the platter they served us and the sausage. Of course we ate everything we had on the table. They never changed the platter and we have waited for them to change the platter but instead they brought the sausage. We paid for the platter they served (ft.17900) without complaining about it even though it was more expensive. What we ordered was ft. 11900.
What I didn't accept is charging an extra ft. 5700 for their MISTAKE. The manager then said that he offered the coffee for that mistake and I told him that I am more than happy to pay for the coffee than having to pay an extra 5700.
Pity for their arrogant attitude because the food was good. Because of this attitude I would never eat there again and I do not recommend it to anyone. For me this is stealing money from their customers. We should have been served the platter we ordered and pay for the...
Read moreExquisite Cuisine Overshadowed by Service Missteps
While the culinary offerings at this restaurant were genuinely noteworthy, the overall dining experience was unfortunately tarnished by a series of service missteps. The food, although of high quality and exquisitely prepared, was notably expensive. The service, while fundamentally friendly, left us feeling somewhat misled.
To illustrate, my father and I ordered a grilled plate priced at around 19,000 HUF, specifically requesting the one featuring sausages. Much to our surprise, we were served the poultry variant instead. Although the dish was still delectable, it was not what we had ordered. When we pointed out the error, our waiter merely smiled and insisted that we had, indeed, ordered the poultry version.
The situation escalated when it came to payment. We were charged 26,000 HUF for the grilled plate, a significant leap from the already steep 19,000 HUF we had been initially quoted. When I questioned this discrepancy, the waiter insisted we had ordered the 'Big Big' plate, which was absolutely not the case. Regrettably, he was unwilling to engage in any further discussion, and my limited proficiency in Hungarian did little to aid the situation.
Despite these negatives, the high-quality food and the live band that added a delightful ambience to our meal deserve mention. However, the unfortunate service experience and the argument over the bill heavily marred our overall impression of the restaurant.
In light of these issues, I can only extend a 3-star rating to this establishment. It's genuinely disheartening, as the excellent cuisine and the enjoyable live music could have made for a memorable dining experience had the service been more...
Read moreTourist Trap. Ordered a water and the guy brings out a giant bottle. I asked if I could have a smaller bottle and he says he’d “have to ask his colleges”. I open the menu and it’s over 1000ft for that water, but right below it is a smaller one for half the price. This should have been my clue that I was in a tourist trap, but I was hungry, so we continued. They brought me bread I didn’t ask for and charged 500ft for that. I ordered the goulash and it was ok, if a little lacking in soup, which mostly soaked into the bread container. It was also a little flavorless, but adding some of the red spice paste they brought with the bread helped with that. Food quality was tasty, but nothing special. Certainly not worth the over 4000 ft I paid by the end for soup, a water and bread I didn’t ask for. The staff at least had smiles on their faces and tried to be accommodating while they scammed me and my friends. Frankly, I can’t see the point of leaving a bad taste in your customer’s mouth for so little gain. I would have tipped over the amount they scammed had they treated me like a customer instead of a mark. Oh, but they got my tip anyway by including it in the bill. I guess that this sort of thing can work well for them given that the entire city seems to be populated solely by tourists, but I would never want to eat here again, or to recommend it. There are plenty of great places to eat in this city that won’t try to trick you out of your...
